Retired Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant. I have been building models since I was about 7 years old in 1956 and have been ever since. Now in my 70's I enjoy it as much now as I did then. Main interest currently are the classic Monogram big Bombers, other interests are WWI aviation and ships. I ride a Harley to work most days as I live in Arizona and the weather is mostly permitting. Have fun, enjoy the build and don't get too wrapped around the axle over the small stuff.
I started this Model on 4 June, 2022, the 80th anniversary of the battle of Midway. The Trumpeter kit offers two sets of markings, one for a pre-war SBD-1 of VMB-2 (Marine Bombing 2) and SBD-2 of VMSB-241. (Marine Scout Bombing 241). The [...]
I became a big fan of the Avenger after seeing the movie: "On a Wing and Prayer" with Don Ameche, Dana Andrews, Richard Jaeckle and others. The movie was filmed aboard the USS Yorktown CV-10 during it's shakedown cruise in about [...]
I won't go into detail on the genesis of the B-58; however, it was an aircraft that was ahead of it's time. As a kid growing up in the 50's and coming of age in the late '60's, it was not uncommon during those halcyon days to be suddenly [...]
1: The Aircraft:
During the period prior to the U.S. entering the war, in 1941, a watchful eye was kept on England as Germany underwent the “blitz”. Knowing that if England fell, there would be no bases available to launch bomber [...]
Okay, after my last posting of the Revell F-89D and some of my admitted faux paux;, Tom Bebout graciously sent me a model of the F-89 that he had picked up years ago that the modeler had started the cockpit assemblies and the fuselage [...]
Ever since Revell issued their Box Scale F-89D Scorpion in about 1956, I have been a fan of the airplane. My dad brought one home with him. It was in the "S" kit box, I believe the artist was Kishady, and it was I that arctic [...]
I started out 2019 by "buying" into the 1/32nd HK Models Lancaster. The thing is huge. Anyway, to get my chops up for the big build, I picked up the Tamiya 1/48 Dambuster kit. Having always been fascinated by the story of Guy [...]
I have always liked and still do like Monogram 1/48 scale kits, raised panel lines notwithstanding. They have the look, low parts count and build into a nice model. I first built this kit back in the late '80's when my son received it as [...]
I like this kit and aircraft so much, I had to do another one, especially since I got such a good deal at a swap meet. The model represents an aircraft from VPB-133 based out of Iwo Jima in 1945 to interdict Japanese shipping. The [...]
I started this around 12 September 2019. I didn't take any "Action" shots, just plodded through the build per usual. I have to admit my MOJO was pretty low, but I managed to plug away a little each night most nights. I drilled [...]
