This is a model that I have wanted to build ever since I first picked it up. So when my friends came up with the idea of building some models for the latest Flight 19 group project, this was one that came to mind.
Having previously [...]
I completed this 1/72 Japanese fighter today, after four days of work. It is part of the #TonyTonyTony group build on the Bluesky #HistScaleModel group, and is my first group build. It's a straight out of the box build of the 2018 Tamiya [...]
The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien (飛燕, "flying swallow") is a Japanese World War II fighter aircraft. Used by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service, it was designated the "Army Type 3 Fighter" (三式戦闘機). Allied [...]
Finished this little kit in 2020. What can I say, this is the best kit I ever built, absolutely superb. No filling required. Painted with AK Real Colors and Alclad II paints.

This is a model that I finished up a few days ago. It also happens to be my favorite Japanese fighter from the War. It's so elegant and streamlined... I call it the "Japanese Spitfire".
The Tamiya model fit together perfectly, [...]
My first attempt in metallic finishes, many lessons learned, many more yet to learn.
Didn't use rondel decals, line decals etc... I've made them by masks I've previously made.
Excellent fit and details.
Every comment is welcomed [...]
Here is Tamiya's 1/48th Scale Hi-61I Hien finished as "Blue 24", Captain Teruhiko Kobayashi's mount from February to April, 1945. Of the six victories depicted by the kill marks, one is for ramming a B-29. The 244th Flight Group [...]
Earlier this afternoon my Hien arrived.
Here's a photo of the box end...
Needless to say, I am very excited about it!
This new kit can be summed up in one word. FANTASTIC! Tamiya has produced another 1/48 scale masterpiece.
