Skoda’s 1/35 howitzer from Takom

August 16, 2015 in Uncategorized

Hi folks been quite a time since I have had time to do any modelling but the new Takom 1917 Howitzer turned up and it really took my fancy, that was 3 days ago. Well here’s the result of 3 days work, I have to say it was one of the best kits I have built in years the fit was fantastic it just fell together with no problems at all.
This was a really great model to build and I could recommend it to anyone.
Here’s a few pictures of 3 enjoyable days modelling.

  1. Nice-lookin’ build, Steve….is that the kit color or did ya paint it? AND…are ya DONE paintin’ and/or detailing it? It almost begs for a diorama, don’t it? 🙂

  2. Hi Craig, it is painted the colour is RAL7021 Dunkun Grau. I’m going to do a little weathering and put it in a small dio, I just put some pictures up just to show everyone as I found it such a pleasure to build.
I’ll put some more pictures up when I’ve put the dio together.
    Cheers mate.

    • That paint job is flawless! I couldn’t tell if it was painted or not! Never heard of “Skoda” before. I think I’ll take a look at what else they offer. Lookin’ forward to the subsequent posting. Again….nice job.

  3. Beautiful work. The box art shows a short barrel gun and your model is a long barrel. Does the kit offer a choice of calibers? The gun is similar to a coastal fortification gun, I wonder if it was used in such a role?

    • Hi Mike,
The answer to your question is yes, the kit gives you the choice. Got to be honest mate it’s one of the nicest models to put together I’ve made it was a joy, one of those you can shake the box throw the parts up in the air and it comes down built.

  4. That looks really cool, Steve, looking forward to seeing it with some weathering. The box shows a figure, does he come in the kit too?

    • yes mate, it does indeed come with the figure and it’s stunningly sculpted and molded, I’ll get some pictures up as soon as I have finnished painting him.
And thanks for the nice comments.

  5. beautiful…just the way she sits

  6. Steve, is this a “fortress” mount? I know Skoda had them big, stumpy looking pieces they used on the Belgian forts in the opening part of WW I. They were portable. This one looks fixed.
Amazing that after all this time, finally kits of this.

    • Hi Bernard, I believe the fortress mounted guns were the short barrel motar type, the one I built was the long barrel type and you can build either in the kit. I’m still doing more investigation into them.

  7. I got to get me one of these Steve. Really some great modeling. I have to agree this kit just begs to be set in a dio. Please keep us posted on the future progress. If not, it just looks cool as it is.
    California Steve

  8. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
Nice work and a very interesting piece I might add. I am in par with Craig, it screams for a diorama.

  9. If guns can be called beautiful, then this one definitely is. Skoda are now part of the Volkswagen conglomerate and make some fine cars and can boast a winning rally team as well!

  10. Booom ! Likes like a great but relaxing build, Steve. Love the clean and flawless paint job.
