Me109-E4

November 27, 2012 · in Aviation · · 6 · 2.8K

My first completed model in 30 years, it's not 100% accurate and I've yet to add the aerial but I'm happy with how it turned out.
1:48 club Me109 kit with PE and after market decals, airbrushed with Humbrol enamels.

[Edit: Changed title to reflect correct aircraft version.]

  1. You say you haven't completed a model in 30 years..?! And you present THIS as your first example..?! Are you a veterinarian and count in dog-years? I could've done one 30 DAYS ago, and not have it come out as good.

    • Thanks Craig.
I used to be a prolific moleler in my teens, even to the extent of scratch building, so I guess the skills I learnt then have stayed with me over the years.

  2. Yes, it is a beautiful start to a (hopefully) burgeoning new modeling career. Additionally, it is an Airfix kit which is symbolic in such context. Well done!

    • Thank you, It was an add on the internet for the Airfix Club that got me back into the hobby, and without the internet and all the references available I don't think it would have come out as good as it has.

  3. I think you've just proven that it's not only bicycles that you never fall off of once you learn how.

I build all the time and I'd be very happy to have this on my shelf.

BTW - it's a Bf-109E-4. A very very minor correction, the two sub-types are indistinguishable past the canopies.

    • Hi Tom,
Yes - as I progressed through the build I could feel and see all the old skills reappearing, except for the airbrushing, that's a brand new skill as I could never afford one when I was a teenager.

Thanks for the correction, I'll edit my post to reflect the correct model. 🙂
