iModeler June Awards

July 5, 2013 · in Uncategorized · · 17 · 1.9K

Due to the holiday season, we've had a bit of disruption in our monthly judging procedure. Fortunately, this could be solved so the results are finally here. Selected among the 86 new articles that were added during the month which prompted no fewer than 796 readers' comments.

As usual, we're awarding the iModeler Best in Show title to the entry that wins our prize, but also list runner-ups as Honorable Mentions. We think that all are great modeling accomplishments that deserve recognition.

iModeler Best in Show - June 2013

Among the many styles of modeling that we've admired on the pages of iModeler, Mike Maynard's ( @john-galt ) work could perhaps be described as "old school". Restrained in weathering and artistic license, it shows all the more creativity and passion for scratchbuilding, improving, detailing and adding to whatever a basic kit may offer. The care with which Mike systematically turned Anigrad's rudimentary resin kit into a masterpiece deserves every praise - and wins him our Best in Show title in June.

Mike's other creations can be admired here.

But wait, there is more!

We are also awarding a prize as a token of appreciation to all our contributors. This is selected through an entirely random draw among all the entries of the month. This time, our lucky winner is Frank Cronin with his F-105D Flown by Colonel Robert L.Stirm, USAF Ret. POW. Thank you for making iModeler a great modeling hangout.

  1. Congratulations gentlemen. Well deserved and quite an exceptional display of talent.

  2. Difficult to pick a winner from June's entries, but I agree with the choice, all great models!

  3. Congratulations to both. The Seamaster was one of my all time favorite listings & Frank deserves his win due to his consistantly well built & presented models.

  4. Congrats to all the winners...keep them coming, as I never tire of looking at the work of others for inspiration.

  5. Well done by all.

  6. From the day that Mike posted this article it had WINNER written all over it. I looked back on this article today, and I am even more impressed with what he did. My sincere CONGRATULATIONS for a beautiful model and a well deserved win.

  7. That Seamaster is just frickin' superb. Frank's personalized projects are also very nice. Like "Nuke" LaLouche said in Bull Durham, "I'm just happy to be here."

  8. Thank you to Editor, and all who made the selections for not only recognizing me but also a true hero, Colonel Robert Stirm.
I am very happy that I was introduced to I-Modeler by Erich Goldbach. A fine group of modelers

  9. I'm glad frank Cronin won the random draw! I was touched by his report on Colonel Robert Stirm.

  10. well deserved mike...wonderful models everyone

  11. All out standing models! Well done and congratulations to all!

  12. The Seamaster was the front-runner hands down. However, ALL the builds mentioned were beauties as well. Congratulations to everyone.

  13. Mike, got to agree whole heartedly with Tom's description of your Seamaster. Frank, your work is always A+ as well are the Honorable Mention subjects. Well done everyone!

  14. Mike Maynard's Sea Master is worthy of "Best In Show" and can easily carry the mantle of a Museum quality model. Congratulations Mike. I might add that the quality of the honorable mentions models are of such a high standard that anyone does the Judging has to dig deep on adding up all the positive features of each kit. One of which is the photography ...

Lots of strong work being shown.

  15. i concur on the Seamaster, outstanding build of a rare plane. And something to throw out to everyone and the Editor, maybe a model of the year award at the end of 2013. From the 12 winners for 2013. Something to consider if it all possible. Unless that is already in place that I am not aware of. So far this site has been amazing relaxing bunch of modelers. Thanks to everyone so far. A great and inspirational experience. Y'all have a fine Navy day!

  16. Very nice Mike!...Congratulations to you for your great work and to all the winners!

    cheers

  17. Gentlemen
For all those who took a moment to comment on the Seamaster, Thank You!
For all the entrants, It's an honor for my build to be considered along with your work, everyone's build on these pages is an "head turner" in my opinion. It's a great web site, professional in appearence and enjoyable to follow other builders efforts on a daily basis. Looking forward to future builds and the continued success of iModeler, the better model web site!
