1/24 Monogram Chaparral 2 D
Jim Hall’s famous Chaparral was released in it’s 2D form, originally, by Monogram, as a 1/24 slot car, complete with driver, and moveable rear wing. It has been released at least twice in model kit form, substituting a “tub” with wheels, tires and plastic axles, for the slot car chassis and running gear. It has a full interior, complete with the original driver figure. There is no engine detail except for a set of velocity stacks. It’s a very simple build, and paint job A classic race car, with beautiful lines.

Actually Joe this has me thinking of building a car for a change of pace.

I really like models of Jim Hall’s cars, and this one especially!
Back in my slot car days, I constructed that model with the movable wing. My wife declared it was her personal toy, and loved to drive it around our home made track layout, with or without competition. That wing going up and down really amazed her!

Joe, this is indeed beautiful, but so simple, I love it!

As George said, clean and simple, if I remember well Tamiya did a version of this car in a larger scale.
As the norm Joe nicely done.

I see Tamiya have re-issued the McLaren in 1/18 scale, with new decals……….

Great job on the old Monogram Chaparral 2D kit…it looks super. I wish someone would reissue that kit, and also new-tool a few others, like the 2C, 2E. and 2J…I would buy all of them. Jim Hall and his Chaparrals were simply awesome; the innovations Hall brought to auto racing were marvelous, effective, and simple…a true genius. Thanks for sharing this one.

Where do you get all those fabulous toys??
Great build, Joe. I love all those old Can-Am cars. Too bad they don’t do things that way anymore.

Joe, that Chaparral looks great! I bought one at Hobby Lobby several years ago, planning on detailing it with parts left over from my teen-age modeling years (yeah, I still have several little boxes full!). They are beautiful racecars and my son and I have been talking about taking a trip to Midland, Texas to see the real thing. Man, you did a superb job on her!

Too bad they don’t make road cars that look like that, todays styling is as exciting as a trash can (and made of the same material too!) Nice work Joe, gotta love those wire wheels.
