P-40E FAB (Brazilian Air Force) circa 1943 – Academy 1/72
Hi all
This is my latest project, a P-40E from FAB during WWII. This plane was used in patrol along the Atlantic in Natal (Parnamirim Airfield), Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
This plane was part of the first lot of 6 P-40E received as part of the Lend Lease agreement and were originally destined to RAF That’s why it still got the RAF Temperate Colour Scheme (Dark Earth+Dark Green over Sky).
I’ve used only Tamiya acrylics and decals by FCM Decals.
Cheers
Paulo

These aircraft have a tough look, even if they weren’t quite powerful enough compared to German aircraft, hence the lend-lease to countries outside the main theatres of war. That said, this is a clean build, and to get a 1/72 canopy that bright and shiny is a feat on its own.
Nicely presented, too. The background gives just enough contrast to ‘pop’ the model for the viewer. It’s something I think we all should bear in mind when photographing our work. When the macro lenses have all been put away and we’re just looking at a build as we would at exhibition, these little things go a long way to promote the work.

The comments I made about your Airfix P-40 apply here also – nice weathering and finishing – nice detail. Thanks for sharing!

See you Tuesday at SAPMA meeting! So you would be surprised to know that Brazil fought in Italy along the Allies and had a Squadron attached to the 356th Air Force.

I know it very well mate. Actually I’ve also done a P-47D http://imodeler.com/2015/08/p-47d-thunderbolt-brazilian-air-force-italy-1944/
and it fought attached to 350th AF based in Tarquinia (Pisa, Italy).
Thanks for your comment.
BTW! I’ve missed you at SAPMA since I was helping to judge the models for our annual model competition. See you next time!
