Westland Wessex HU.5 (Italeri 1/48 + + + )

January 5, 2016 · in Aviation · · 24 · 5.1K

Hi fellow modellers. It has been a while since my last post, but I think this one is good enough to be presented on this site.

I have been waiting for this kit for a long time and was pleasantly surprised and somehow dissapointed at the same time as this kit has good and bad features. I've decided to throw in basically everything that was available for it at the time of the build, so complete Photo etched set was used and in the middle of the build, The scale worship rotor fold was bought (as my display cabinet was a bit too tight for extended rotors. A fair bit of scrathbuilding was also needed for all the exterior piping. Used lead wires and some albion alloy tubing. Painting was done using Gunze paints, weathering with Ammo washes. Hope You like it. And don't forget to enjoy your (our) hobby! Best regards! G

  1. Let me be the first to compliment on this stellar rendition of an awesome machine! Re: "think this one is good enough to be presented on this site" that's flattering, but I do believe that all modeling deserves to be shown... thanks for sharing!

  2. You did an excellent job on that one! All little details do make a big difference to a standard OOB build. I just want to turn every handle and open every hatch πŸ™‚

  9. Exactly how I remember them ! - I think if you were to take this to the FAA Museum at Yeovilton, they'd put it in glass case right there and then !

    Superb model, just superb.

  10. WOW!
Awesome build- can you give some pointers as to how you photographed it? I am struggling to get the same quality of contrast and clarity in my shots!
    Dan.

    • Final photos were taken at the nationals by my friend. So I can't give You any pointers of the settings of the camera. But i remember it was pretty dark and the daylight was coming from the left side. The model was placed on grey backdrop. Hope that helps.
