P 47 D, Late for parade (D.Day GB) Sorry.
OK folks, I am sorry for being late but life just got in the way, well that and few other things too. So , sorry Neil, but I got there.
I was warned that this kit was a pita, and they were right too.
Academy`s P 47 D , a poor kit, only the Cartograph decals saved it really.
Well the WIP is well documented ( see WIP )
It has been a learning experience to say the least.
She ended up being a trial run on ideas that I had read or seen on this forum.
Most of the ideas came out OK but some I am glad that it is over.
Finished with Tamiya paints and Vallejo Varnishes, warts and all.
Thanks all for the support.
Simon.
All comments welcome.
Simon. looks the business. Sorted them de-cals, did we? I like it, and it's a great color scheme.
Cheers Bernie, Yes I got there in the end.
Good to see it finished, Simon! No apologies needed, she came out just grand, my friend.
Cheers Jaime, one of those builds that I wish I had not started but by the time I had finished I had learnt a lot more than I would of thought I would of done.
Simon, I don't want to say this took you a while, but... if it took the Allies that long, we'd all be speaking German... Nice job, Simon, looks great ! Worht the wait !
I know Joe, but , if a job is worth doing then give it your best shot.
Thanks for the comment mate.
Despite the trials & tribulations of that Academy kit, ya dun gud! And it's about time, too. 🙂
Thank you Craig, the encouragement I got from fellow(Esses) help a lot.
Simon, I kind of have a thing for P-47s, so I have to say I like what you've done here, definitely looks the part of a well used war horse. I'm drawn to the paint ware on the starboard wheel over, how'd you do that?
More luck I suppose.
Base coat was Silver, to which I masked off to spray the White and Black.
When I removed the masking tape, it took with it some of the paint.
That and I used some liquid masking solution dabbed on with a bit of sponge.
I hope that gives you an idea.
Better late than never, Simon, and it looks great, lovely worn finish, you've obviously learnt a lot of new skills along the way.
Hi George, yes thanks, it has been a learning curve as such but with no real pressure in the end.
It got finished, and that is what I set out to do.
Was there a D-Day group build...oh, I'd better get started!?!
Nice job, Simon.
A bit late now Rob LOL, thanks mate, nice one in the AMW by the way.
Awesome looking Jug.
Cheers Robert, I appreciate all the comments on this forum, it has given me the confidence to try new techniques out.
Worth the wait to see the final product! Excellent looking 47! One of my favorite paint schemes, and the weathering just looks great.
Thank you Greg, it was a bit taxing at times when things went tits up but she finally got across the line.
Now to crack on with the Phantom build.
I like it, Simon! Nicely weathered. Is it the 1/48 kit?
Yes John she is, the only thing going for it were the decals and the resin Frank Gabreski.
Thanks John.
Beautiful Jug, Simon. This one turned out really nice 🙂
Thanks Bernd, she was a b***h all the way but I got there.
To finish a "harder" one, gives a great feeling. When i look in my "box of doom" i should give me this feeling more frequently too...
Nice one Simon, you got there in the end mate!
I did mate, finally got there.
Cheers Gregor.
Hello Simon, that beastie sure fought hard but you did a great job. I know what you mean about life getting in the way. My best to Lady Rose.
Thanks Rick, it now gives me a chance to get on with the GB Phantom build.
The good Lady Rose sends her regards.
Great Jug! Your paint scheme is excellent, Sir!
