The new Airfix B-17G
So while I was building the Ju88 featured a few days ago, I was working on two new builds for Airfix Model World Magazine. These are both featured in the new December issue on sale now. The first of these is the B-17G. This is a superb kit, it was a delight to build. Detail is simply excellent as is surface detail. though similar to the Revell B-17 in a number of ways, the Airfix kit is significant improvement. Hope you enjoy the photos!

Boy, Airfix just keeps on hitting them out of the park!
Very nice, Alan. I didn't know Fortresses had exhaust stains from the inboard engines, or am I thinking of a Lanc...? I've probably got that wrong though, so ignore my ramblings. ?
This is maybe the cleanest 1:72 scale B-17 I've seen for ages, and well done on the AFMW feature.
Hi Rob, there are some excellent colour pictures of this aircraft and the weathering is based on those images. This B-17 does seem to have been fairly well cared for considering the number of missions it had completed.
Glad you liked the pictures!
Spectacular build and photography, Alan...I like it!
She's a beauty! I'm hoping to get brave enough to do an NMF finish on my second B-17, but plan on some other scheme for the first!
Very nice..
How is the fitting of front fuselage side windows. It seems that front section is not moulded as clear plastic like on Revell s kit.
It is Tolga, fits very well too. Better that the Revel one as there are no panel lines crossing the join.
Great. I have just ordered one from Hannants .Thanks for sharing Alan..
Looks great! Glad I didn't buy the Revell one!
Impressive build looks like a real must have !
I have mine on order. Looking forward to getting my hands on this beauty.
Another beauty.
A great job Alan, I read the article in AMW and she does look like one of those kits to sneak pass the SWMBO.
You said in the build that you did not use the bomb bay bits, did Airfix supply the bombs?
Thanks Simon, yes you get a fully detailed Bombay plus ordnance.
A real beauty, you've got the exhaust stains done to perfection.
Since 2010 Airfix has vastly improved the 72nd scale choices in the WWII multi engine class Allied and Axis. Lancasters, B-17's Heinkels, etc...priced fairly as well compared to the Asian choices. And the quality is on par if not to exceed some of the offerings. Oh yeah amazing build up. Thanks for sharing
Thanks to everyone for all the great comments! I always post these new Airfix builds here as soon as I'm able too as I know you all enjoy them.
🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
OK ... that is it, I am getting me one of these AIRFIX model. Which one ?, don't know it but it has to be 1/48.
Wow! I've been waiting for this kit to appear and I reckon this'll be my present from Santa next month!
Thanks for sharing Alan!
I see Airfix have just announced a 1/48 Sea Fury. Oh boy, oh boy, I'm excited! 🙂
Hello Allan,
Excellent job, with a moderate weathering. It looks like the real one to me.
