Tamiya, 1:48 scale F4F-4 "Wildcat"
Another kit I finished this weekend...
I'm sure we all have built this model at one time or another, maybe even more than once as in my case. So, I will not go through the kit details, but suffice to say, it's a Tamiya kit, and it builds very nicely.
I built this model as part of the Battle of Midway group build, here on the website.
I love the "Wildcat". It is one of those aircraft that really gave a lot more than it was thought able to give. Having grown up within a few miles from they were built here on Long Island, it's a little bit of pride too. A good deal of "The Arsenal of Democracy" was built right here on the Island.
I hope you enjoy the pictures, and I look forward to building and posting more.
Regards,
Freddie from LI
Very nice, Frederick...much better than the handful of Tamiya Wildcats that I've completed.
π ... Greetings ... π :
Nice work on that WILDCAT Frederick. The overall paint work looks good and gives it a somewhat old look to it. It is so good not to see the heavy panel paint job. Very nice weathering ... the best part of it ... it is not over done.
Cool modeling. I love the slight sheen of the surface.
Really nice Wildcat. Very subtle weathering. What colours did you use?
She's painted in Model Master, USN Blue Grey on top, and Lt Gull Grey on bottom. (FS36440)
Nice work, Frederick. This old Tamiya kit is still a wonderful kit and your work here shows that !
Very nice Frederick. Perhaps I'm the only one who hasn't built a Widlcat...yet! Possibly due to the lack of odd schemes though I have found a yellow FM-2 and the Wildcatfish does look intriguing.
A real beauty! Have you seen the in Wildcat at Cradle of Aviation museum?,
I have not been there in years Robert. I have friends who volunteer there, but I just never have the time to go. I myself am a member of the American Air Power Museum, in Farmingdale, home of the P-47, and spend a lot of time there.
Frederick,
Beautifully done. I like every little nuance you did to this model. I agree, the Wilcat is always a good subject. I have looked back on all your posts and your work is excellent. I liked the Wildcat & more, and the Hellcat & more. Particularly Alex Vraciu's Hellcat. He was aboard Bon Homme Richard during the same years I was aboard. He was commander of VF-51 flying FJ-3's. Several years later I had lunch with him and gave him a model of this same Hellcat. He was a very interesting and cordial man. He had a great life. Again, compliments on your fine work.
Frank
Very neat work there, Frederick, I've never built a Wildcat either, but then I haven't built many aircraft...
One question, why is it posted in "Uncategorised"?
This Wildcat really turned out nice Freddie. I was watching you work on it through the building process in the Midway Group build. You have some great talent Sir !
Please do me a big favor...
Sometime on (or right after June 3rd this year), please post up another article and photos with this F4F. If you can also add some of the history behind the actual plane and pilot who flew it.
I really would like to have a bunch of builds posted to honor the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway.
Thanks in advance...
No problem Louis, that's my intent with all the models I have built, that have a Midway theme. I need to finish the Great Wall, TBD and the B5N, and I am starting on an A6M2, markings to be decided...
Awesome my friend. That will work !
I just finished up my Accurate Miniatures "Richard Best SBD Dauntless" a few minutes ago... Now I have the 1/48 PBY and the AM Avenger to complete.
If I have time I may start another build. But I really need to finish these last two up first.
Thanks again, and this is really a nice looking F4F. The award you earned with it is well deserved...
Just beautiful. Lovely finish & subdued weathering. No doubt about it; Wildcats have loads of character!
Love it! One of the best-looking wildcats I've seen posted in a while. Great work.
Nice build i LIKE!
Very nice Fred. Love the subtle weathering treatment!
Great work- really nice weathering! One of these days I will get a few more of my Wildcats in the build pile done!
