Airfix 1/24 Scale Bf 109 E-4/N – Duxford's W Nr 1190
I made this some years back, having seen some interesting articles about adding realistic detail to the old Airfix moulding of the 109 E. The result's since been sold to someone who made me an offer I couldn't refuse at an Aerojumble a few years back so all I have are the pics.
I don't normally restrict myself to 1/24 scale since they're really too big for my storage area, but I have another one of these waiting forthe right time to have another go.
The subject is White 4 (W Nr 1190) which has been partly renovated and sits up in Duxford. The a/c force landed about 1,000 yards from where I live on the evening of 30/9/40. Hence the interest from my side.
I decided to follow the general camo pattern of the a//c as it looks at the IWM with the field-mixed greys rather than 02/71 on the uppersurfaces. Not sure this is wholly accurate but I guess they had the actual airframe to take paint samples.
Anyway, it looked OK but I've since rethought the camo pattern and made an Eduard 1/32 scale version (a post maybe later). In any case, making the Airfix 1/24 kit has given me food for thought for my next attempt at this scale.
Thanks for looking.
Paul
Wow...another 24th scale "monster"...leaves a lot of room for detailing (and less eye strain as well)...nice build, sir.
Beautifully done, Paul.
Very nice!
Good lookin 109.
