Trumpeter 1/48 MiG-3 (early)
Couldn't find a lot about this aircraft other than what is on https://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/mig3/german-capt/germig2.html There is also a photo of the aircraft here. The fit of the kit was pretty good with the exception of the cowl panels which needed a lot of brute force. Trumpeter erred in the area at the front of the exhaust, this box-like shape is more for later versions. I removed them with a razor saw and reshaped them. The colours are based on Massimo's observations so may not be correct. I tried to show the difference in colour between the metal and wood surfaces. Again...this may not be 100% correct but I like it. The codes were home made, swastika came from an Eagle Strike Bf 109F sheet and the Balkenkruz came from a Techmod sheet
Nice job, George (as is your norm).
Thank you very much Craig
Neat looking MiG. Looks a bit odd in Luftwaffe markings!
Thanks Greg. I was torn between this and 6+1, this being the more colorful.
Woof! woof! as usual George, great work, on an unusual scheme.
Thank you Robert
I've never seen this aircraft before ,looks to be more engine than aircraft.
It always reminded me of the Curtiss XP-37
This is a very unusual build in two ways. First the subject chosen, and secondly the markings. It's a Win / Win and I like it ! You don't see many of these built up which is cool.
I have this same kit in the stash. I noticed you mentioned the front cowl panels. Did they require a lot of trim work or just force ?
Thanks Louis. I think it was mostly trimming, test fitting and then pounding the c**p out of it with CA. This area has 3 insert: 2 at the wing roots and the lower cowling and it's quite difficult to test fit and figure out a build sequence. I went with the wing roots first but maybe it would be better with the lower cowling first. Two pics to show plus two of the exhaust area I changed. If you do a later version you may not have to alter anything.

Thanks George for the reply. These pictures will definitely help when I get around to building mine. My kit is the late version with the white colored Mig on the box art. Looks like you put a lot of work into this one. It really looks great !

I have that one as well Louis. You build it and I will follow
Sounds like a great idea. I want to build up some Soviet stuff next year.
I have to agree with Louis...Win-Win! No negative waves here Moriarty...
Thank you Gary
Unusual George, and it looks great. Well done.
Much appreciated Tom
Very nice looking Mig, and a lot of work to get it like this. Fantastic!
Thank you Ferry
