Eduard 1:72 B24 Liberator, Coastal Command

January 29, 2019 · in Aviation · · 18 · 4.6K

Hey chaps, just thought I would post a recent commission, a long time since I completed anything! A bit of a departure for me, this being my first 'American' build, but as a Coastal Command version. A lovely kit and painting a white scheme is real challenge what with trying not to make it look, umm...white! I used a very light grey on top of a white base and then weathered with oils. I forgot to write down which squadron this one was attached top so maybe one of you bright sparks may know?

A very tricky scheme even though it looks very simple - a challenge having to mask the leading edge curves of the vertical stabs and spray black (actually dark grey for scale). Replacement brass barrels are a nice alternative to the poor kit parts. I made the base with a laser cutter.

Apologies for the poor images, I did them last minute on my phone, at night!

Next stop, the Airfix Walrus!

  1. VERY nice Charles! That's a B-24 to be proud of.

  2. Now that right there is a top-notch job, sir...and the pics are just fine, too. 🙂

  3. Beautiful! Awesome detail!

  4. Love it! The Coastal Command scheme is just a great scheme, and you really did a fantastic job with the white - I'll take notes for when I attempt one. The weathering looks just right - not too heavy but very realistic.

  5. Well done. It's ironic to make everything neat, true and smart looking only to mess up the model so it looks right with white paint and grunge. I like the Leigh light it, is very convincing.

Some of the British Liberators where modified to carry big canons in the nose compartment and they also, added rockets mounted on the nose too. No wonder the U-boats where called iron-coffins. Two thumbs on this build.

  6. Beautiful! Love that gray color...

  7. Great work Charles!

  8. Thankyou all for your very kind and encouraging comments! 🙂

  9. Charles, this looks really nice, I really like the paint scheme and the light touch on the weathering. Your pictures look fine to me, however a more contrasting background would have helped. Over all, Very well done !

  10. Looks good Charles, well done.

  11. One of my favorite schemes for the Liberator.Superb job I say.

  12. Excellent Work! Very Inspiring!

  13. Very impressive! The inflight pose gives your B-24 a whole new perspective. That scheme is hard to weather without running to excess, yours is perfect.

  14. Nice work, Charles. I like Coastal Command schemes a lot.

  15. Awesome paint job sir!
