Airfix 1/48 Walrus
I can’t rate this kit highly enough. It was an absolute dream to build, and I managed to finish it in less than a month, in no small part due to the fact that I only once had to trim something to fit (I took about .5 of a millimetre from the top of the bulkhead at the back of the pilot seat).
Well done Airfix!

Robert. Looks great! Nice detail. Being a fan of the Raiding Forces book series, which the Walrus is one of the planes used, this kit is on my want to purchase list.

Nice job! That’s one of the nicest kits I’ve ever built too.

Some really strong work Robert. But, your shorting us on your gifts and talents. If you got it flaunt it …more photos please. The build is definitely a “Goldilocks” build. Impressive to say the least. Some of us like to study and learn from other peoples experiences in making these kits and yours is fine example. Definitely a strong contender for “Model of the Month.”
Two thumbs up

Thanks Stephen
If the weather permits I’ll take it outside into the bright light and try to get some better shots (all those are taken in the modelling cellar, under very dodgy artificial light)

agree with the others – very nice looking build. Love the paint effects. What did you use for rigging?

Paul
It’s EZ Line (fine) with some Gaspatch turnbuckles added.

Thanks for the very generous comments everyone. I also found a crew to go with it, and I will post some photos when I eventually get to paint the figures.

Good looking Walrus Robert, and nicely photographed as well. As noted above would love to see more of them.

Fantastic build Robert! What were your references for the hand rails around the nose/fuselage – they look great! I am building one for a client at present but just can’t face the rigging!
Robert Joseph Cookson said on April 11, 2019
Hi Charles
I actually used the Meng Air magazine build (issues 77 and 78 I think). Megas Tsoros had rails on his version, and I have seen photos of them on the Sea Otter, so I’m guessing that they were present on the Walrus also.
I honestly wouldn’t worry about the rigging – in terms of skill requirements it really isn’t difficult – it just takes a long time and a lot of patience!
