1/48 Hobby Boss FW190D-11

April 5, 2019 · in Aviation · · 8 · 3.6K

This was a rather quick build. It is the easiest FW-190D series model I've built. Not mistake filled like the Tamiya D-9 which requires a lot of aftermarket or mods or a complicated headache to build like the Eduard D series.

Definitely recommend the HB series for anyone who likes the long nose Wurger.

I didn't like the rather bland options that came with the kit and ordered the Eagle Cals Doras of the Galland Circus set and picked #4 which is quite a popular/common option for a D-11 Wurger. I know why as #4 is quite colorful and striking with the stripes, yellow/black spinner and RLM82/83 mottling. The white stripes were masked on as I prefer to mask than use decals for certain things. Yes, I know they're uneven, but that is part of the charm I think as the white stripes were like D-Day stripes (roughly outlined and painted.)

Only aftermarket part I used was an Ultracast seat with seatbelts. Everything else was straight from the box which is quite unusual for me, but I really wanted an easy build.

  1. That's a good-looking Dora! Well done.

  2. Excellent result. I think the HB Doras are the best out there right now.

    • Thanks. I agree that the Dora series is. Reasonably accurate, reasonably priced and easy to build. All of their kits (sigh) should be like that.

  3. Very nicely done! Great catch about the underbody stripes. A lot of folks think they are pristine and even spaced...Not. Attached is my Rot 13, 1/48 Eduard Overtrees and EaglCals.
