Convair B-58 “Hustler” in 1:48 scale

May 10, 2019 · in Aviation · · 26 · 4.8K

As the Dakota, the mighty "" is a good subject to show how aluminium foil gives such birds an absolutely realistic metal finish. As all kits, the model is easy to build and I did it o.o.b. To foil the model with kitchen foil I had to spent more than 100 working hours, but the result is indeed worth it.
If pictures of this model are taken under sunny conditions, it looks like a real Hustler.

I hope you like this model as well. As usual, comments are welcome!

  1. Wow. Your craftsmanship shows on this one. More often then not, foiling is poorly executed by modelers and doesn't look too good in my opinion. Yours is flawless. this is the best NMF I've ever seen.

  2. Thanks John for your kind compliment!
Meanwhile I've found another picture taken from another angle.

  3. Impressive metal look !

  4. Just perfect! I'm working on my B-58 for years (far from OOB but...) 🙂 so the statement "easy to build" surely has some other meaning which I'm not aware of 😀 I envy Your skills!

  5. Most real looking NMF I’ve seen from foil. Superb.

  6. Outstanding work, Peter. The end result is a wonderfully convincing model, one which highlights your foiling technique, and tremendous modelling skill, to the fullest. Congratulations!

  7. Astonishing! It it looks like a real Hustler, indeed.

  8. I concur with others. Very convincing indeed.
It would be great if you could elaborate on your method of foiling!
    Cheers,
    Aleks

  9. I must admit, I thought I was looking at an actual photo at first. One of the best builds of that kit I seen. Bravo, sir.

  10. Awesome work!

  12. absolutely fantastic! I can't imagine how you got to that end result with kitchen foil...

  13. I was fooled at first glance, thought it was the real thing. Well done! How do you apply the foil?

  14. Amazing finish. The 100 hours really paid off!

  15. Superb Peter!

  16. Probably the best metal finish I’ve ever seen... I had to have a second take, I thought it was a walk around at first glance!

  17. Very realistic looking model... Like the others I had to take a second look myself !

Well done ... The foil work is spectacular. I have used a lot of Bare Metal Foil over the years, but I've never finished a model using regular household foil before... Hmmmmmmmm.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

I have no words for the perfect metal finish! I’d like to know what type of adhesive was used for alminium foil.

  19. Definitely one of the best results with this kit I have ever seen.

I do have to take issue with it being "easy." You must have a different definition of that term from the rest of us.

  20. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
A true good sight and model too see. Love those Monogram kits.
Nice to know that I am not the only one too use aluminum foil, I have a few F-104's and a F-5 as well as a few others covered in this means. Nicely done Peter.
