1/48 Special Hobby CAC Boomerang

December 14, 2019 · in Aviation · · 9 · 2.1K

Finished nice and early today. My RAAF CAC . Typical limited run... sanding, filling, sanding, angle grinder, sanding. Probably wont do another Boomerang in this lifetime, ( It wont come back ) but I'm glad I have this one.

I've done many SH kits and they're usually fun to do. This may have been a re boxing of the Ltd kit.

I still have more SH kits I want to get. Hard to find some. Lol.

  1. Nice ! Interesting looking aircraft.

  2. Nice work! It’s not the same as the LTD kit. I built that one and have the SH in the stash. Where were the trickiest parts building the SH kit?

    • Ah ok. The hardest was the engine fitting into the nacelle, and the cockpit location.
Also the wings are hard to line up and you'll need filler around the where the wings and fuselage meet. Otherwise, all good. ?

      • I did the the CA C 12 which is the earlier version with the straight exhaust. Yes the engine cylinders have to be ground down to fit the cowling as on most limited run kits. As far as the cockpit location problem, I feel the poor instructions are responsible. The instruction diagram shows the control panel is to be placed under the front cockpit coaming. This is incorrect and will make the cockpit floor be positioned too low and will cause the floor to obstruct the fit of the wing to fuselage. I was fortunate to have good cockpit photos showing the control panel should be mounted in front and above the coaming. Doing this will eliminate the fit problem.

  3. Very nice work, SH has been moving their quality from old cottage moulds to mainstream injection plastic of Revell/Italeri standards. Won’t surprise me that sometime soon their moulds will improve even more. This Boomerang is very well made Paul

  4. Great job on this beast. I have/had the LTD kit and never made it past the vaccuform clear parts

  5. Nice result on what I know is a "difficult" kit. Looks greatr!

This is a Special Hobby original. Trust me, the LTD kit is worse.

  6. I like doing the unusual subjects, and short-run producers are usually the only source! This came out looking very nice!
