1/48 Kitty Hawk UH-1Y Venom

February 2, 2020 · in Aviation · · 4 · 4.4K

A beutiful kit by , I recomend it to everyone who is looking for detailed and quality kit. For $40 it includes detailed cockpit panels, colored paint/decal instructions and PE parts for seatbelts and fuselage details. Parts are excellent fit, almost all filling was needed due to my mistakes.

Three color scheme included in instructions. I just couldn't take another light ghost grey model in my collection so I choose green/white scheme. Hataka white color is a pain in the a*s to paint with, it takes layers and layers of thin coats to get it to start looking white.

This is the first helicopter in my collection, I hope there will be more to come.

  1. Great looking Huey, Boris. I like your "attention to detail."

    Bravo!

  2. Nicely done! That's a scheme I hadn't seen before.

  3. Hello Boris,
Iconisch helicopter. Still in production after many decades.
As mentioned by Greg, unusual color scheme.
Any information regarding this special scheme. (Squadron)
    Boris, job well done.

    • Thank you Dirk,

I can't really find any specific information on this paint scheme. It came with instructions but does not reffer to any specific squadron.

To me it resembles to "marine one", helicopters designated for transportation of US (vice)presidents. This job is usually done by Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), but I can't confirm that UH-1Y really is in service with that squadron. So far, HMX-1 operated mostly Sikorsky helicopters. Also, I did not manage to find any real photos of UH-1Y in this paint scheme, so I'm inclined to think this is a "what if" version of Marine One helicopter.
