Monogram Butcher Bird

March 14, 2021 · in Aviation · · 9 · 1.6K

An older boxing of this venerable kit. The decals were very brittle and gave me some problems. Otherwise, it turned out better than the last one I did around 1973!

  1. Very nice build of this oldie, Scott.
You handled those decals very well.
Love the boxart used for the kit.

  2. I've always preferred the looks of the Fw 190 to the 109, and this one looks great, definitely liked.

  3. Love these classic kit builds, great work!

  4. Well you just made my day. My first '190 was around the same time frame as yours but with the Aurora kit. So far I've built four of these Monogram 190's starting as a young adult with more to come. The last one I finished in 2008 was the Classics re-issue like yours and I too had splintering decals, even after I sprayed the sheet with Testors Glosscote which usually prevents that from happening.

I was hoping I just got a bad sheet but now that I read this apparently not. All I used from it were the crosses and by the time I was done touching up the splinters they're mostly paint now.

Anyway, nice save on the decals and a great job overall. Really, this makes my day. A beautiful '190. This is the scheme I'm planning to do next, and yellow 2 from the same outfit with an early aftermarket sheet, so early that Monogram is the recommended kit. Miss those days but they're alive and well here.

  5. A wonderful build of this oldie, Scott!
Ain't it great to put together classic beauties of kits like this!
    Well done!

  6. Nice work on this "dinosaur."

Further proof it's not the kit in the box on the table, but the modeler in the chair at the table that defines the result.

  8. Nice looking old 190! Proof again, these old kits can still be brought to life.

  9. This turned out excellently. Nice that the decals were useable.
