1/72 Academy P-51 "North Africa"

May 8, 2021 · in Aviation · · 9 · 2.2K

I just finished the "North Africa" boxing. I think the kit had been languishing in the stash for about a decade so it was time to get it built and I kind of like the look of the Allison powered Mustangs. The kit came with a 1/72 "Follow Me" Jeep so I built it as well. The only thing added were PE seatbelts. Everything else is OOB. Cannon barrels have been drilled out. I added some windshield glass to the Jeep as for some reason it was not provided in the kit. Both the aircraft and the Jeep were painted with MRP paints.

  1. Excellent P-51, Geoffrey!
Hard to believe it's only 1/72.
Great job on the Follow Me as well!

  2. Very nice results, Geoffrey.
The accompanying jeep is great as well.
    Well done.

  3. Nicely done Geoffrey, can't believe you built a 1/72 Jeep. Built a Tamiya Jeep in 1/48 and thought that was tiny, at 1/72 it has to be minuscule. Well done.

  4. Love the early Mustangs with Operation Torch markings. Very nice result indeed.

  5. Nice job on both builds, the overall finish looks great! The Academy P-51A looks pretty accurate for an early Mustang.

  6. Love the P-51A and the Jeep - Geoffrey, nicely done!

  7. Looks great! Those N. Africa insignia make for an interesting scheme on the ubiquitous Mustang! I'm gonna have to look for a set...

  8. Nice Allison powered Mustang!

  9. This looks excellent ! I wish this were available in 1/32 scale !
