Vintage Lindberg 1/72 F6F Hellcat (with just a few tweaks)

July 27, 2021 · in Aviation · · 11 · 2.1K

One thing about the kits I have built is that the parts fit properly. All I did to this kit is open up the closed engine face and add a spare engine, some guns and an antenna. Everything else is out of the box. I did use the decals from the Academy kit too. The paint is good old Testors glossy sea blue. It is a nice and simple kit that certainly looks the part. Now to do the Betty.

  1. An amazing result, David!
    Just like old times!

  2. Very nice build, David.
    Well done.

  3. Nice work, David. I remember those Lindberg kits well. That Hellcat and their P-47B always looked the part to me. They did a series of German a/c that were pretty good for their time too. All in 1/72.

  4. Great finish on your Hellcat. I enjoy reading about your vintage builds.

  5. Nice build David, true about the old Lindberg kits. I feel their Stearman and Curtiss Jenny looks fine to me. Your approach on the build by not going overboard but still do some tweaks resulted into a pretty nice looking hellcat.

  6. Another nice oldie! Looks great.

  7. Nice build - it definitely looks the part!

  8. That’s a pretty kitty... love those Grumman cats ! Would be nice to build a series from the Wildcat to the Tomcat. Great results from the Lindberg line .

  9. Looks good David. I love to see these older 'classic' kits being built

  10. Really nice, David (@thevid). This shows that many of the older kits can still be made into terrific models with a little TLC. Great job.

  11. Great model. I have a Lindberg Hellcat I'm finishing. Agree about the fit. Not a smidge of filler needed. Fantastic level of fit, far ahead of many modern and much more detailed kits
