1/48 Douglas A-20 by AMT
Lots of aftermarket items added to this build. The engines, cowlings, propellers, control surfaces, cockpit, control panel, guns, and wheels. Foxbot decals were also used to replace the kit ones. I fabricated the pitot head on the fin, the retractable foot rest and the wing tip navigation lights. I also opened the port side canopy slide window as well as drilling out the upper canopy deck holes.
. Since I decided to have the open cockpit deck I thought additional detail would enhance the cockpit roof so I added the three sun screen rods and lock down latches. Eduard photoetch parts were also used for cockpit detail. The model represents "Perks Pet" an A-20G-45 of 388BS, 312BG, Philippines, Summer 1945.
This is an exceptional model, Dale! Your massive extra effort is definitely obvious, the result is stunning in every respect, the final weathering included!
What a departure from the original kit!
Congratulations!
Thanks so much Spiros. I'm gratified you like the model.
Well done Dale
Thanks George!
Excellent result for all that work.
Thanks!
A build of high standards, Dale @dtravis
The painting and weathering is exceptional.
Aftermarket parts really add a lot to this awesome build.
Thank you john!
You are insanely incorrigible, @dtravis!
Keep it up. 🙂
Thanks Tom. It pays to be a little nuts these days!
Another masterpiece, and one achieved in a model I’ve been keen to build one day sooner or later. Beautiful work Dale!
You mentioned the engines and cowlings as replacement parts, quickboost stuff?
@holzhammer Thanks Pedro! The cowls are indeed Quickboost but the engines are from Fastfix. These are 3D printed and look great but they're expensive. The engines cost more than the kit!
Outstanding as usual Dale, really like the weathering you've done one her. One of my favorite A/C to model, I've built 4 AMT's to date with one more to go. Going to have to step up my game to compete with yours. Well done.
Thanks much Tom!
Very nice, Dale. A lot of effort with great results.
Appreciate your comments Gary.
Great A-20, Dale!
Thanks John.
Really good work. I especially like the skull and crossbones on the nose.
Thanks Greg. I've always liked those markings too.
Dale, your model is super well-done as it takes on the full look/feel of realism. Special.
Thanks Bob !
Amazing build Dale, in every aspect...and the Skull & Crossbones on the nose seals the deal!
Glad you like it George!
Superb Dale. Did you fabricate the life raft?
@eb801 Thanks Eric. The raft comes with the Vector cockpit set.
All of the above, great work!
Appreciate your comments Robert!
Superb job - excellent painting and weathering, on a beautiful subject. Top rated.
Thanks very much Robert!
Its always neat to see someone with a paint palette that is sophisticate, subtle in the use of colors and a good solid build with no runs, drips or errors in the seam dept. Some strong solid work Dale. You really have brought out the best in this kit and have raised the bar on this one.
Two thumbs up.
Looking forward to your next modeling adventure.
Had to smash the like button.
Thanks for your kind remarks Stephen!
Dale, @dtravis
I really can't say anything that hasn't been said but your Havoc is sooo beautiful to see I had to "chime in!"
Really beautiful and wonderful to see! Thanks for showing this.
Thanks much Jeff! I'm happy you like it.
All the extra details add so much to the realism of this model, and the paintwork and weathering really set it off, you must be really pleased with the result, definitely liked.
Thanks George. I worked on this for about 3 months and it was a fun and challenging project.
Outstanding work Dale, my compliments on a fine A-20 model.
Thanks Jim for your positive comments!
Really nice model, Dale (@dtravis), especially the paint and weathering. Truly well done. These AMT kits still build into a nice model with a little TLC.
Thanks and glad you like it George.
Always like the A-20 since I built the Matchbox 1/72 model with the colorful Green Hornet markings. Much better done than my AMT 1/48 A-20G (in the Green Hornet Markings.)
Thanks Dan. If it wasn't for your build to get me motivated it would still be in the storage closet!
Dale, fantastic results, and clearly the product of careful planning fine crafting. It really simply looks outstanding! Your mods and paint work make this stand apart from the base kit by a long shot. Thanks for sharing!
Your positive comments are greatly appreciated!
Exceptional. Very well done.
Thank you sir!
Fantastic build - love the weathering and paint work. Wel done!
Thanks Greg!
