Airfix 1/72 Bristol Beaufort.

October 3, 2021 · in Aviation · · 37 · 3K

Another gem of a kit from . Flawless fit from start to finish. Built from the box, apart from an Eduard harness I added to the pilot seat.
Finished in MRP paints, with some oils for final weathering.
A highly enjoyable build, it took about three weeks, which is very good going by my tectonic standards.
Well done again Airfix !

  1. An excellent build out of the good Airfix kit, Robert!
    Looks really superb!

  2. Very nice Robert. It beats the MPC kit Which is in my stash hands down .
    Airfix rules !

  3. Very nice work indeed!

  4. Fantastic work Robert

  5. Now there is something to write home about. Some strong work in the modeling dept. My only niggle Robert is there is not enough eye candy to show off all that good modeling. Could we have some more photos please?

    • Thanks Stephen. Unfortunately my good camera isn't working properly, so the photos are all taken with a phone, and not the best for details. The figures are from Gunthwaite Miniatures - really lovely for this scale.

  6. What a beautiful build! More pics, please! I was planning to order this kit tomorrow in fact and now i am thrilled!

    • Thanks Felix - you will not be disappointed ! I've added a few more photos on the reply to the comments from Stephen Towle. I tried adding in rivet lines on the upper wing surfaces and fuselage, but it doesn't show up particularly well (probably for the best, as in fact they're all over the place !)

  7. Great looking build.

  8. Well done, Robert (@rob-cookson). The Beaufort is a really cool plane. Your camo and weathering is superb.

    • That's very kind of you to say so, George. I tend to overdo the weathering, as it's probably my favourite bit of the modelling process, but in 1/72 I've tried to keep it low key. In truth my 62 year old eyesight is not really up to the scale. I mainly work in 32nd.

  9. Nothing to add to all the above compliments, Robert @rob-cookson
    A wonderful result.

    • Thanks John - it's a lovely little kit. Not as refined as some, but the fit of the parts makes for a stress-free build, where you can concentrate on the finish rather than struggling to get it to go together. Airfix have done a fantastic job with it.

  10. Really enjoyed it.

  11. Well done to you, too @rob-cookson.

  12. Great job, nice job on the weathering.

  13. Both the Beaufort and the Mosquito are my absolute Airfix highlights this year.

  14. Great work, Robert! Looks like we’re all doing the 217 Squadron option. Love that kit.

  15. Thanks John. Normally I avoid night schemes, but I just liked the look of the Rutherford version. I normally swear by MRP paints, and I used Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Grey for the upper wing and fuselage camo, but it's quite difficult to spot the demarcation, for some reason ?

  16. Fantastic Beaufort! I also need one of those... Fantastic finish on yours.

  17. Thanks Greg. It really is a great little kit - Airfix comes up with the goods once again !

  18. Great looking build, this is a very nice kit from Airfix and you have done a great job with the end results.

  19. Absolutely no hesitation in endorsing all of the above comments Robert. I'm wrestling with my conscience about breaking away from my usual 1/48 for one of these. Like you, my eyesight could be better these days, but we still seem to manage. In a word...fantastic!
