Special Hobby 1/48 Firefly Mk. I
Although not glamorous like the Seafire, the Firefly earned its respectful place among the Fleet naval fighters. As a model, it adds credit to your collection. Yet, with the wings folded, it shines.
Special Hobby's Firefly has good details, but is a limited run kit and should be treated accordingly. The Airwaves PE wing fold set fits the model platform well and is sufficiently detailed. However, the heavy weight of the back swept wings and flimsy wing joints will challenge your modelling skills.
This is a great looking plane, Rafi (@blackmopane). I have always really liked the way the Firefly looks. I have a 1/48 AZ Models Firefly TT that is working its way forward in the build queue.
Thank you George
I look forward to see the results
Very cool. On my wanted list
Thank you George
It is well worth it. Be patient with the rear canopy.
If you get the Barracuda Studios vacuform clear parts you solve the rear canopy problem completely, and can even open it up if you want. Ditto the front cockpit.
Equally maybe (because I have not tired), you can get an easier job with the wing fold if you use the Wolfpack kit.
A wonderful result of the challenging SH kit, Rafi!
You have totally captured the distinctive Firefly posture.
Thank you kindly Spiros
Equally beautiful Fireflys, Rafi @blackmopane. Great result on the painting and weathering.
Thank you John
Great looking Fireflys Rafi , the wings folded looks cool.
Thank you Neil
Nice work, you made a great looking Firefly. It also looks really sharp with the folded wings.
Thank you Bob
First time I've seen one of these built. You've done a great job & captured the look beautifully with both.
Thank you Tony
Excellent work, Rafi. Thanks for sharing these. That wingfold looks like it was a real challenge. I like the SH Fireflies. I built a Dutch Mk.IV and a Mk.I like yours finished as DT934. Did you use AZ’s decals? I did. I still have a SH Mk.V in the stash to build as an Australian bird next.
Thank you John. You may use use Wolfpack's wing fold kit. It looks friendlier. I used the kit decal, which were fine.
Great looking naval bird, or, should I say insect?
Thank you George
