1:48 Scale, Accurate Miniatures TBM-3 "Avenger"
Calling this one DONE!
One of my favorite kits to build, (I've built three...). The kit overall suffers from a wee bit of over engineering, (As in you won't see most of what's in the fuselage...). The fit and level of detail is very well done. Considering the kit was released in 1997, it still holds up, and in my opinion, is the best kit of the type in any scale. Only real PITA is mounting the rear turret. I may, just might have invented a few new four letter words...maybe.
I used True Details resin wheels, Reskit exhausts, belts from Eduard, Yellow Hammer decals, Floury washes, Tamiya Acrylics, Model Master Enamels, (For the interior surfaces), EZ Line for the aerial, and weathering pencils from AMMO.
Markings are for a TBM-3, assigned to Torpedo Squadron 83, (VT-83) and flying from USS Essex, in the closing days of the war. This Avenger carries the nick name, "Satan's Helper" with a VERY scantily clad lady in a wine glass. The US Navy was much more strict about giving the combat squadrons leeway on 'Nose Art', Unlike in the USAAC. However, there were a few exceptions...;)
Very nice result on this Avanger, Frederick @fls3
Paint and weathering does look great.
An amazing result, Frederick! Thanks for the kit info!
Excellent finish on this, Frederick, I like the cocktail as well.
A very solid build here Frederick, the details are excellent!
Seems the artwork is somewhat “pixelised”, judging by the photo (?)
Looks good, Frederick. I like the paint job, especially the panel accents.
Nice work, Frederick. That kit is still awesome.
Very nice
That is a nice kit, and you certainly got the maximum out of what was there Freddie. Nice result!
Beautiful Avenger!
Fantastic model. Really like the detailing you did on the bomb bay. Liked.
Nicely done Frederick, having build two AM Avengers I agree it's the best one around in that scale. There is a little trick to fitting that rear turret but it can be mastered. My issue has been the directions, as they can be a little difficult to understand viewing those awful drawings/sketches. Excellent paint and weathering which really sets her off.
You did a great job with this turkey, Frederick. These AM kits are the best. Really like what you did with the bomb/torpedo bay.
Lovely subject, lovely kit, beautiful result!
