Alexander's 1/48 Airfix P-40 and Tamiya FW-190
My son Alexander picked these two kits up with his own pocket money from a well known model shop in York just below the old Roman walls.
I do the cutting out and sanding which an 11yr old would find very boring π΄ but he then does the gluing (Mr cement orange smelling one )and painting ( AK Real Colors ). He has full use of my harder steenbeck infinity airbrush ( but forgets that there is no lid on the cap, so my modelling den carpet is a tad RLM tinged ) He keeps away from fitting radio cables and painting the canopies and asks for help with complicated decals no problem for me to help. Also a new one for both of us was using the AK stencil worked well not quite Lufftwaffe mottled but close enough for us. He is now finishing off a Fujimi Tiger Tank and a motorised Airfix Spitfire mk 1a not bad π Hope you like them π
Wonderful work! Thanks for sharing-nothing I did at age 11 was even close to this. Keep building Alexander! and thank you Guy @thom for encouraging and mentoring your son in this fun hobby
Many thanks David. Alex is a funky kid who loves aviation and other slightly less strange things. He is an IPMS Member who can't wait for every November to come around and spend some pennies at Telfod. π
Excellent work on both, Guy @thom
How amazing to see your 11 year old son being into modelling and doing the construction together.
Alexander did some amazing work, especially on painting, except for the carpet.
He will be one of the new generation modellers.
Thank you John. Modelling, sports and an unhealthy addiction to XboX are Alexander's vices. Bit different from his dad π
Well done Barker Family! Superb all over!
Alexander, you are a born modeler! Looking forward to see more of your builds!
Hi Spiros I will post his next builds in a couple of weeks, thank you for your kind comments. He can read all these this evening π
Way to go! When I was his age the most prominent features on my models were fingerprints on the canopy and brush marks left in the thick paint. Not to mention busted antennas, pitot tubes, and mis-aligned landing gear!
Cheers Chas for your kind comments. Alex wii go blush red when he reads the nice things every one has said π
You beat me to it, Chris, Way to go! I made about three models with my son when he was growing up, then he discovered skateboarding and that was it. Great work Alexander and Guy.
Thank you Robert so rewarding seeing them take an interest. I have learnt not to question his knowledge on aviation subjects as he tends to know more than me on things that he really likes. π
Great work, Guy and Alexander, keep it up.
Thank you George. He will finish off the two part builds soon. But he is itching to start the HobbyBoss 262. He flies one on a computer game and loves the shape. π
I wish the models I was making when I was Alexander's age looked anywhere close to what he's done. Really nice!
Bravo Alexander!
Thank you Tom. He puts my early efforts to shame. Great thing is he really does enjoy it. Strange lad π
Great work, Guy and Alexander. Thatβs exactly how I started. Dad helped at the start and I was hooked for life.
Follows here John, my dad built an Airfix Zero with me back in the very early 70's and I never stopped. Alexander seems to have a real fun time doing it. He is going to have to like it, he will inherit my stash at some point. π
Great models, Guy & Alexander. It's good to see encouragement of younger modellers & your son's results just prove it. At 11 years old I was doing solid balsa models; now referred to as the dark ages!
Hi Tony, thanks for your kind comments, it helps his dad being an anorak, but I think going to Telford for the Nationals every year and seeing the Airfix make and take got him really interested in it. π
Beautiful work!
I love it Guy Barker (@thom). The models look fantastic! I'm envious of your father-son thing going on and doing these models together. I have a 12-year-old son, and he's as interested in aircraft and modeling, as I am in hair and makeup ha ha. I don't think my boy would have the patience to do this just yet and Roblox is all he cares about right now π
Hi Scott π hopefully it will come, Alex plays warthunder quite a bit so his interest in anything aircraft is high. Plus he has grown up with my stuff always on show and his grandads stuff too. He attends one of our local clubs and goes to a few shows including Scalemodel World where he has free reign to enjoy himself with another young lad. Think the poor lad ended up with no choice tee hee. Nice to chat. π
