Revell Iron Maiden Spitfire

I couldn't resist building this one given the subject matter. The detail and fit of the model was excellent with minimal filler required. The Eddie figures are reasonably well detailed as well. I chose to display the model in flight over an Aces High single autographed by Derek Riggs, the artist who created the iconic mascot, Eddie. I used a 1/2" acrylic rod, bent using boiling water and inserted into a pipe fitting I faired into the belly using CA glue and dental acrylic powder. I used Vallejo RAF colors from their Battle of Britain 'Air War Color Series' Kit. I undercoated much of the aircraft with AK Extreme Metal aluminum and used both AK and Ammo chipping fluids to expose the metal skin; I did not find any remarkable difference between AK and Mig products for chipping. Weathering was accomplished with a variety of oil washes and Ammo enamel fluids such as fuel stains. Finally I used various pastels to provide/enhance exhaust and gunfire staining. Red painted Tamiya tape was used to simulate the doped fabric over the gun ports. A small drill and engraving tool was used to replicate the various bullet holes illustrated on the record's cover. Overall a fun project, the only thing I would definitely avoid next time is using the beautiful Eduard aftermarket cockpit and Quinta studios instrument panels - with Eddie in the cockpit you can't really see any of it, and it was a lot of work.

    Welcome to iModeler.

  3. Great job on this Lee , the weathering and overall finish are amazing ,love Iron Maiden so this is a must have, so many kits so little time...
Are the patches on the side part of the kit or your own imagination ?

    • Thanks for the note. The decals are actually all stock from the kit. They replicate the A and B sides of the single sleeve's artwork.

  4. Fantastic build and presentation Lee. Great way of getting modelling and music on one album cover. Nice one đź‘Ť

  5. Though I'm not a huge fan of the Iron Maiden stuff, the work on the model is excellent! Well done.
