"Cactus Cat": Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat. Tamiya 1/48 scale

May 27, 2023 · in Aviation · · 9 · 511

After reading another book on the Guadalcanal campaign, I finally decided to finish this model I had sitting on the shelf about 70% complete. It's a from VMF-223 in 1942, flying from Henderson Field, Guadalcanal, the famous Cactus Air Force.

Because many of these planes were kept flying with cannibalized parts, I opted for a dirty finish, with some panels in a slightly different tone than the rest of the plane.
