Honda REPSOL
The idea for this build began as I followed several bike builds in the Motorcycles Group. Between @bikequeen, @chinesegeorge and @johnb I knew I needed to attempt a bike build.
I did some looking at my local hobby shop and on Amazon and found this beauty. I was immediately drawn to the color. I have nothing else like it. I knew I also wanted to explore detail sets after the recent Ford GT build. I had a lot of fun with the PE parts on that one. Fortunately, I found Top Studio, they have an amazing collection of detail sets for motorcycle models. The resin and photoetch parts are very high quality and made for a fantastic build.
I had a lot of doubts when it came to the plumbing on the front end and thanks to all of the encouragement from my friends here on iModeler, I managed to get through it. The instructions from Top Studio weren't very clear at first, having never done a bike model before I didn't quite understand what I was looking at a lot of the time. In hindsight, it was definitely all me.
The build video is now live on my YouTube channel and if you have the time, please check it out... and if you would, please hit the Like button and Subscribe to my channel, it's always appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time,
Bri the Builder
It turned out great, @brithebuilder, and it was very enjoyable following your build, I think we all learned a lot from it, especially adding all the extras from Top Studio. Unfortunately You Tube isn’t available here in China……… is there another bike build in the future?
@chinesegeorge - If you want to watch the video George, I can put it on Vimeo as well, can you get Vimeo? And, yes, there will definitely be more bike builds. I really like the larger scale.
Hi, @brithebuilder, thanks, I tried Vimeo but it doesn’t work here either. Most western social media is blocked here, I can’t even get on Modeling Madness, we call it the Great Chinese Firewall. There’s an app called We Chat that would work, I use it to talk to my family and friends in the UK. Don’t worry too much though, I’ve learned to live without Twitter, etc.
No worries George... I did look at We Chat quick and it seems like it's more for conversation than for a 45 minute video...
@brithebuilder this build is just wonderful. The extra detail really paid off. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.
@coondog - Thanks Matt, I appreciate it.
An amazing result, Brian! Excellent build and great build thread. Loved the video, too!
@fiveten - Thanks Spiros... Thanks for watching the video!
Excellent achievement on Marc Márquez his bike, Brian @brithebuilder
So much detailing on this colorful bike, a pleasure to look at.
Your build thread was really great as well.
Well done.
@johnb - I tagged Marquez on Instagram, maybe he'll comment. I appreciate it John, thank you.
Well done Brian, it does look good.
@kalamazoo - Thanks Allan. I ended up not doing any clear over the decals at all. Based on some online reading, it seems like it really isn't necessary unless it's going to be handled frequently. It should actually 'feel' more like the real vinyl decals with a slightly different finish than the paint and the slight edge.
Beautiful bike Brian. What happened to that cartoon character that popped up on the lead photo when you first posted?
@eb801 - Hey Eric, I'm not sure what was going on, but as I posted it seemed like my pics didn't want to upload. Maybe I just needed to refresh, but the character is a model I made in 3ds Max to be my little version of myself. I also have my dog Moose modeled and textured (painted) but he's not rigged for animation yet. Obviously a style ripoff of Bob the Builder.

@brithebuilder Outstanding job Brian! Welcome to the dark side 😉
@bikequeen - Thanks Cricket. I can definitely see having a collection of bikes. I really need to buy a display case so I don't have to keep dusting my models.
These large scale motorcycle models are very tempting. Yours turned out great!
@gwfabian - Hey Greg, it's the 'standard' 1:12 scale from Tamiya. Someday I would love to tackle one of the larger 1:6 scale, but they're a bit out of my price range currently. Thanks!
