1/72 Airfix Meteor F8

July 20, 2023 · in Aviation · · 9 · 337

I've made quite a few of the new kits, mostly the models, and this is the best one they've put out of those. Outstanding fit, very good detail, the best panel line size in this scale for Airfix, and great decals.

I did add seatbelt harnesses but otherwise it is straight from the box. The directions say to add 8 grams of weight under the cockpit but, I recommend an extra gram or two. Mine would tail-sit at the slightest bump of the table or incline. I squeezed in a couple of slivers of a fishing weight in the canopy and that has helped. Airfix went all in on stencil decals so if you like that kind of thing, you will love this kit. I eventually gave up on adding all the stencils on the bottom.

If I had a niggle with kit, it would be the landing gear. It was the one area where the fit was a little off. Perhaps it's the design, perhaps operator error. I know I'll have a chance to find out because I'm definitely going to do another!

Especially the tail and fuselage markings are very nice.
