1/48 A6M5 Zero
This is my recently completed 1/48 Minicraft/Hasegawa A6M5a Zero.
A few months ago I found it's worn & battered 1985 dated box on the consignment table at the LHS for $10. Given the price of new kits these days, it seemed like a bargain .
For the two main colors , I used Tamiya XF-11 J.N.Green and XF-12 J.N. Gray. The wheel wells were painted silver followed by an uneven coat of Tamiya X-23 Clear Blue. The prop was painted with Tamiya TS-69 Linoleum Deck Brown. The engine cowling was sprayed with Model Master Dark Sea Blue.
The kit's decals were not useable due to age and/or poor storage over the last 30+ years.
Fortunately I have a Tamiya A6M2 Zero in my stash that was a willing donor of some of its decals so I didn't have to buy aftermarket decals. They would have cost more than the kit.
.
You did a fine job on the old lady! I have several of those in the stash... must get started on those
Thank you, Brian , @wyvern1965 !
It’s a pleasantly simple kit to build, no serious gaps or fit problems.
Definitely a lot of plane for the money, turned out very well.
🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
Nice simple rendition of the Zero Jay.

Congrats Jay. Another WINNER to add to your growing collection of WW II classics. Having seen photos of your Zero in various stages of the building process makes me appreciate the final product even more. Well done my friend!
Thanks, Morné @mornem !
I appreciate your comments! I’m happy with the way it turned out.. it’s sitting next to the SAAF Hurricane .
Excellent job Jay! Great bargain and nice "save" on the decals. A gorgeous Zero!
Fully agree with all what is mentioned above, Jay @ssgt

Thank you for the compliments John @johnb and Spiros @fiveten ! It is a nice old kit.
Really beautiful build. I really love the older kits. Yours holds up to any kit produced today.
Thanks for the compliment, Clint @curtisshawk ! Old kits are what I mainly seem to build .

Great job @ssgt. I really like the green you decided to use.
Thanks Keith @greenterrorz .
I added a little white to the green… I’m not sure it was enough to make a differsnce but it lightrned up a little bit.
Nice job on a nice little kit Jay @ssgt.
Thank you, Robert @beauslx ! It is my last one for the year, so I’m glad it turned out well. It is a nice kit.
Great work Jay! I love salvaging those old kits.
Hi Greg @gkittinger !
Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it.
It’s hard for me to pass up an old kit like this if the price is not too high.
