1/48 A6M5 Zero

November 12, 2023 · in Aviation · · 24 · 427

This is my recently completed 1/48 / A6M5a .

A few months ago I found it's worn & battered 1985 dated box on the consignment table at the LHS for $10. Given the price of new kits these days, it seemed like a bargain .

For the two main colors , I used Tamiya XF-11 J.N.Green and XF-12 J.N. Gray. The wheel wells were painted silver followed by an uneven coat of Tamiya X-23 Clear Blue. The prop was painted with Tamiya TS-69 Linoleum Deck Brown. The engine cowling was sprayed with some very rare and precious Model Master Dark Sea Blue , product number 1917. Oh how I wish I had another can or two of that !

The kit's decals were not useable due to age and/or poor storage over the last 30+ years.
Fortunately I have a Tamiya A6M2 Zero in my stash that was a willing donor of some of its decals so I didn't have to buy aftermarket decals. They would have cost more than the kit.

  13. Hi Greg @gkittinger !

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it.

It’s hard for me to pass up an old kit like this if the price is not too high.
