Hi all,
I would like to start my first post this year by wishing you all the best and first and foremost a healthy 2024!
Inspired by the beautiful builds of Brewsters B-339's by @johnb and @alistairfgauld I decided to extend my series of Dutch fighters with a B-339 as well.
With respect to the paint scheme I based this on the colour references as described in IPMS Netherlands as much as possible, that's why the colours and camo patterns differ from the ones Tamiya suggest in their painting instructions.
The red dot on the spinner indicates that this particular fighter aircraft, with registration no B-3110, belonged to the so-called “Rode patrouille” (Red patrol), which was part of Ve Vliegtuiggroep 2e Afdeling (2-VLG-2) of ML-KNIL.
The airplane was first flown by Captain Jacob Pieter van Helsdingen (Commander of 2-VLG-2) and later 1st Lieutenant August Gerard Deibel.
2-VLG-2 was stationed initially at AFB Singkawang II in Borneo and later at AFB Kallang in Singapore.
Ve Vliegtuiggroep was discontinued in March 1942 after ML-KNIL surrendered to Japan and pilots were ordered to (if possible) to fly to Australia with their respective planes.
The pilot figure in the 5th picture is actually a RAF pilot, but I think Dutch pilots looked quite similar those days. 🙂
Hope you like my take on it, thanks for watching.
Looks awesome, Alfred!

G’day Alfred (@alfred),
That is a great build and story.
What paints did you use for the two greens?
Liked!
Hi Michael @michaelt
Sorry for not responding earlier, I missed your message.
I used AMMO MIG 0230 camo green and 0925 olive drab dark base.
