After seeing Roland’s use of the Coastal Kits backgrounds for the past few years, I decided to get some myself.

Here’s the first photos I’ve done using the Allied Hangar background and base set.

I built this plane a few years ago. It is a depiction of the P40 on display at the USAF museum in Ohio.

White background.

  1. Very cool, that hangar background makes it work!

  2. Keith, congratulations on this model and the effect of your pictures! The exciting lines of the P-40 are convincing.
I am pleased to have been able to provide some inspiration!

  3. Thanks Roland @rosachsenhofer. I find many of the bases to be pretty flat and plain looking. I plan on adding static grass, sand, dirt, rocks, etc to many of the ones I got. Did you end up doing something similar?

I spoke to the owner of Coastal Kits yesterday. He seemed like a pretty cool guy.

    • Hello Keith,
great, it's certainly interesting to exchange thoughts with "Mr Coastal Kits"!

I feel the same way as you describe: the base plates, especially when they show structures, look too flat. With the backgrounds set up, that's fine, but I make sure to enliven the space between the foremost picture plane and the back wall with spatial structures - for example, alternating grass and concrete surfaces. I have created a kind of modular system with panels that can be joined together. The grass surfaces were electrostatically charged and placed in the glue. I have attached a few pictures.
Keith, great work, I look forward to more models and pictures from you!

      • Thanks for your reply Roland @rosachsenhofer.

I have been working on the base for another Coastal Kit set I got. Nearing the finish line.

It’s about 90% done in this photo. Still have a bit of paintwork to go.

  4. Gorgeous paintjob, love that dark olive drab! The hangar looks great!

  5. Awesome model, awesome pics, with the new background really adding a lot, Keith!

  6. Your P40 looks fantastic Keith. Very nice job. Background really sets off your model too, making it look very real 😎😎😎
I’m going to look into these backgrounds. Are they physical backgrounds or are they digital backgrounds that add into the photo? Can you provide a link to the background please?

  7. Looks stunning with that background.
    Got one too, love it.
    Awesome P-40 by the way!

  8. That plane with its new background setting gives it an entirely new look. Very nice. @greenterrorz

  9. Splendid P-40. They just look like a fighter. Those hanger shots are great. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Great photos, Keith.

  11. That's a fine looking background, Keith @greenterrorz
The P40 by itself is beautifully done and the lines do show much better with this background.
    Very nice.

  12. A great presentation Keith, both model and background look fantastic
    Nice one 😊

  13. I agree with everyone else here. That's a great looking P-40, and a fine presentation as welll! 👏 Well done, Keith @greenterrorz! 👍

  14. This is the Airfix kit? The wing dihedral and tailwheel geometry look strange.

    • Yep!

This Airfix kit has a few inaccuracies unfortunately.

First off the wings should have an upward pitch which I assume is what you noticed.

Next, the star decals provided for The First American Volunteer Group (AVG) scheme have too few points.

  15. That background really sets it off! Well done.

  16. Looks great, Keith!
