Dieppe Hurricane: my take on Arma Hobby favourite
Bought this kit directly from the maker during their pre-sale deal simply because of box art.
Fact is I've been wanting to build a 1/48 Hurricane for too long, and getting a 4 cannon gunboat MK.IIc with an unusual (and very weathered) version on the box it was irresistible.
Cannons, exhausts and seat are resin oob, and I added the tubular structure inside the ventral radiator, plus a new scratch/quickboost gunsight, and also the tried my best to replicate the bulb light just ahead of the mast (something completely missed by Arma although the box art clearly shows it). Paints are Tamiya, and the “black” underside is a homemade mix.
Hope you enjoy it!
That’s really nice work on this Hurricane, the paint chipping on the wing by the fuselage looks great, very realistic .
Thank you Jay, the chipping was made with a product that I had never used and to be honest I wasn’t too favourably impressed because a lot of touch ups were needed. Still I’m happy with the result
Very well done. Build & weathered finish look great.
Thank you Bob
I really like this, @holzhamer. You've done a great job of weathering the exterior, I particularly like the exhaust staining and burns. You took a great kit and "took it to the max." Excellent!
Thank you Tom @tcinla
I had the chance to stumble upon your own build of this machine in the smaller scale and got some hints from that article.
Unfortunately the light used in these photos plus the fact I used my iPhone as a camera don’t really capture the subtle lighter vs darker ocean grey shades
Very nice weathering. You really did a good job with the Arma kit.
Thank you Dan @dbdlee. It really is a very good model allround
Great looking Hurricane, you have done an excellent job capturing how this individual aircraft looked like in its final paint scheme.
Thank you Bob @v1pro
I tried to achieve that but judging by the photo of the real plane it’s still too pristine 🙂
A striking representation of a well used and weathered Hurricane- you did a great job on Arma's new offer! Very very well done!
Coming from you that’s a big compliment Roland, thank you @rosachsenhofer
This is an impressive result, Pedro @holzhamer
Lots of details and great work on painting and weathering.
Still looking for a decent Hurricane myself and this Arma Hobby seems like a good candidate.
@johnb
John, thank you for the compliments and yes, buy one someday because you won’t be disappointed 😉
Awesome job, Pedro!
Spectacular result!
@fiveten
Thank you my friend!
beautiful paint and weathering work, bellissimo!
Grazie Davide! @dapo68
Absolutely wonderful build Pedro. Super modelling 👍
Thank you Guy! @thom
An absolutely stunning weathered Hurricane, Pedro, you’ve taken what is probably the best Hurricane kit currently available and made something very special.
@chinesegeorge
Thank you George! I’m not so sure my model is that special but the kit is for sure second to none
Well done Pedro, looks like an impressive kit which you were able to enhance even further.
@tom-bebout
Thank you Tom!
Incredible looking weathering, Pedro @holzhamer. A very inspiring build. The exhaust stacks look outstanding.
@eb801
Than you Eric! The exhaust stacks colour got me scratching my head for weeks untill I got something close to what I wanted. Those were among the last parts painted and assembled on the build
Absolute stunning build this Hurricane.
Love the weathering and eye for details.
Masterpiece!
@alfred
Thank you Alfred for such kind comments
Great work!
Thank you Lis @lis
The sun,moon and the stars all aligned to make for great rendition of the Hurricane,Pedro. It's not just a painted kit but, rather gives off a feeling of what a Hurricane is all about. With all of the detail notes. The wheel well details, the cockpit with the metal chipping near the wing walk all come together
.to perform a symphony of harmony in your gifts and talents. In other words it rocks.
@stephen-w-towle
Thank you Stephen, that’s a very poetic feedback mate 🙂
That's a spectacular Hurricane - the paint, weathering, and details all came together to make it real!
Thank you Chas @chasbunch
Pedro @holzhamer
This build is amazing. I love your paintjob, it is simply pristine. The depth will the layers applied is fantastic! May i ask how you did the exhaust stains?
@fxrob
Thank you Felix!
I first used oils to achieve the darker brownish layer. It took awhile and two coats plus some airbrush work with the camouflage colors to blend that even further around the edges. The light grey was highly thinned sprayed after all that.
That is an AWESOME build! Love the paint work and weathering - especially those squiggles over some of the sections - a real beauty.
@gkittinger
Thank you Greg! The unusual (for a RAF machine) squiggles and the worn paint work over the black original camouflage was what drove me into building this kit
Super work Pedro. The paint finish and weathering are outstanding!
Pedro @holzhamer - Do you mind divulging your painting technique for the exhausts? Most excellent.
By the way, it's interesting to note Arma Hobby shows that clear formation light fuselage in section 34 of the instructions. Here's what that light should look like:
@eb801
Eric, thanks for the comments.
I have the description on how I made the exhaust stains above, in my answer to Felix
However if your question is just about the actual exhaust manifold the I started with a black layer the worked around with a mix of red+Rust (can’t recall proportions tbh) using Vallejo acrylics sprayed with a flow medium.
About the position light thanks for the image 😉
Unfortunately the edition box Jubilee doesn’t have any mention to that light, nor have Arma provided a clear part meant to that item, something I believe is transversal to all boxes if the MkII kit
Thanks. That answers my question.
