P-47D Thunderbolt Razorback

July 18, 2024 · in Aviation · · 32 · 477

1/32 P-47D Razorback by . I think the Razorback version is much nicer than the later Bubbletop. The kit is of excellent quality. In terms of price, it belongs to the cheap kits, but I was very surprised by the quality of the workmanship. For a small price, you get a really high-quality kit and, as a result, a really big plane. Really big! I only needed the putty for the joint of the two hull halves. The way the wing attaches to the fuselage is so good that you don't need any caulking as the fit of the parts is exact. Even so, it is not a completely simple kit. The color scheme corresponds to the aircraft that was deployed in 1944 on Saipan. This color scheme is not part of the kit and all markings were airbrushed using masks custom made by my friend Ondřej Schwarz (OMASK).

  1. Well done, Pavel

  2. Indeed, a big, bad 'bolt well-done.

  3. That's a beautiful Jug you got there. Very nice paint shading.
Yes I think Razors are much more better than Bubbles. Bubble canopies are kind of a connection to the coming Jet Age, razors are a connection to 30's design.

    • Thanks Bill. Yes, the design of 30 years is closer to me. Although for the P-51D Mustang, for example, I like the later version with the bubble canopy much better.

  4. Excellent Jug. i too prefer the lines of a razorback P-47. As a pilot, I'm sure they preferred easily seeing behind them, but the lines are much better on the "D". Thanks for sharing.

  5. A beautiful detailed Thunderbolt, Pavel @pavelmat99
    Well done.

  6. This kind of work really sets a standard for many of us to try to reach. Excellent result.

  7. That's an excellent Razorback Pavel. Great build of the Trumpeter Jug.

  8. Awesome Thunderbolt! I also have this kit and there are a lot of extra stores that you can use na variety of other us fighters, drop tanks, rockets and such.

If you like BIG Thunderbolts check out the Kinnetic's 1/24th scale P-47s. There basically a scaled ouversionofthis kit without all the internal ducting. There a rebox of another manufacturer, but I forget off hand who it was.

And a BIG YES, on the early razorbacks being better looking than the bubble tops. As Matt @coondog mentioned, the bubble top definitely had better rearwerd visibility, but it lost some longitudinal stability with the deck cut down, hence the rib on the vertical stabilizer on the layer -model bubble tops. Same thing on B/C and early D model Mustangs to the -10 and later D models.

    • Thanks Clint. To tell you the truth, 1/24 scale is not for me anymore. I build in 1/32 scale and even in that some models are bigger than I would like :-). I have an unbuilt 1/32 Gotha UWD in stock, or a 1/32 Felixstowe F.2 A. Fortunately, I have a policy of only building each type of aircraft once. So there probably won't be another P-47 🙂 Even though it's a beautiful plane.

  9. Excellent P-47, Pavel!

  10. Big Jug yes! Pavel.

  11. Again, as always, wonderful work.

  12. Love the paintwork on this, and a great choice for scheme - well done!

  13. Excellent build of that big beast!

  14. Very nice build!
