1/72 SAAF Spitfire Vc trop.

February 19, 2025 · in Aviation · · 18 · 156

This is the newish kit finished with kit decals for a South African No.2 Squadron four cannon based in Italy in 1943. I've always wanted one of these in my collection and Airfix provided it out of the box with this kit's first release a couple of years ago. I built it (and the US Spitfire in the final photo) for a GB on Roy Sutherland's Barracuda Studios FB page. Roy makes great stuff and I used his wheels and prop spinner on this plane. Paints are Xtracolor Middle Stone and Dark Earth over Modelmaster Azure Blue. This is a great little kit and was very enjoyable, which is what it's all about!

  1. Those are both great-looking Spits - I'm always a fan of desert schemes, and the SAAF roundels look really good on this.

  2. Great job Greg. This is a beautiful, eye-catching build!

  3. Excellent result, John @j-healy
Looks fantastic in desert scheme, hard to believe this is just 1/72

  4. Fantastic result, John! Having fun is what it's all about!

  5. Nice! Your results make it look more 1/48

  6. I am another one who likes desert schemes, John @j-healy. Another well done Spitfire.

  7. Wow, i love this kit and you did a fantastic job with it, John @j-healy! I think the SAAF desert scheme is very attractive.

    • Thanks, Felix! I’m a fan of the Vc. Who would’ve thought we’d have wait until the last few years to have quality kits of this plane in both 72 and 48 scales?

  8. I very like four cannon spitfire too!
