Hasegawa, 1/48 P-40E
My last post of 2017, and yes it's another of Tom's P-40's from his on going collection. This is the first Hasegawa P-40 I've completed and it's really a sweet little kit. Went together very well, and no putty or filler was used. I did add a Ultracast seat but everything else as out of the box, to include the decals. Used a combination of Tamiya rattle cans for the exterior and Model Master enamels were hand painted in the cockpit. The antenna wire is nylon thread. This P-40E, "Bob's Robin", was flown by Lt. Robert Vaught with the 9th FS, 49th FG, in Australia during the summer of 1944.
Was lucky enough to win a couple of third place finishes at the Toledo and the Cleveland IPMS model shows with this kit. May have to do another one just for fun after I finish a couple of iModeler Group Builds. It's been a fun year of building for me and I've thoroughly enjoyed viewing some incredible models that have been displayed here on iModeler. Keep it up folks and I wish you all a very Happy and prosperous New Year.
Another beautiful P-40 Tom... What a way to end the year. I say go for it and build another one... or two. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and that your New Year is Happy and productive my friend.
Outstanding work on your P-40, Tom!
Very nice P-40. Is it Tamiya or Hasegawa?
Me thinks, Hasegawa, and it is a SWEET kit. Very well done model!
Seems the first thing to go is one's short term memory. Went back and pulled the kit instructions. and it is a Hasegawa kit. So I've corrected the posting to reflect same. Man you just can't get anything past you sharp eyed modelers.
I thought it may be a Hasegawa kit, but since Tamiya will be releasing a new tool 109 soon, I was second guessing myself. Hasegawa or Tamiya... both are great kits.
Let's call it a ,"Tami-gawa", th at way all bases are covered?
A great-looking P-40 Tom! Nice subtle finish to it, and I like the markings - haven't seen that scheme before.
Very nice
Tom, that is a good looking Warhawk. Love that airplane.
Nice job, Tom...one of the better ones I've seen of late.
Looking nice. I saw you stating this as a Tamiya at first. I wonder if Tamiya ever will make a P-40...may be too much to hope for.
Not sure how in god's name I confused the manufacturer, then spent some time on scalemates checking out P-40's. Doesn't appear Tamiya ever did a P-40 kit.
Nice P-40! An unusual 'shark mouth', looks like it's hungry.
Extremely well executed. Nice job, Thomas.
Beautifully done, Tom! Like many others, I think the P-40s - even with all their faults, were awesome aircraft. Other, more modern aircraft performed better, but that big gaping maw just looks ready to eat up the enemy! (And those 6 M2 caliber .50s sure helped "tenderize" whatever was unlucky enough to be in front of the guns!)
Like Greg, I haven't seen that scheme before, either. Bravo, Tom!
Tom, Very nice work and yes it too is one of my favorite airplanes so I always like seeing a nicely built model of a P-40. I was wondering your opinion on the tail section plug into the fuselage ?. I've heard good and bad opinions, Looks like yours fit very well.
Don't know about others, but I glued both sides of the tail section to the fuselage first, then glued the fuselage together. Didn't bother trying to attach a plug to the fuselage. Figured if any gaps appeared they would be easier to fix they way. Worked for me.
Great looking model. Invest in some Squadron/Falcon P-40 vac canopies. They make things look really good (you're making yours look super, the right kind of canopy makes it extra-super).
