MAN – Burnt Out Cab
I have been experimenting lately with different burnt out effects, on various vehicles. After doing the burnt out car, I just decided to go ahead and try a truck. In the earlier stages I had to re-do some parts and scratch built parts in certain areas to get the right effect. The steel thread on the rim is electrical wiring. It is not perfect but it is as close as I could get to simulating the torn Tyre effect, revealing the steel thread underneath.
As you can see in some pics I have tried simulating carbon fibers as they literally tear into almost thread-like material, by using disinfection wipes. It looks 'OK' but not quite perfect. I have added more modulation effects on the cab and more weathering on the overall cab and truck as a whole. I think , I am satisfied with the results , especially, after taking some outside photos of the model. What do you guys think?
Amazing modeling Charles, an as always "never really what you wld expect"! Well done!
I read this journal article once about a modeler on Jagdpanzer iv. He used pieces of actually burned cardboard and charcoal on this burnt-out hulk. I try and look it up for you.
Thanks. Should be an interesting read
It's a cliché, but I actually thought that the first photo was a photo of a real burnt out truck.
You are a master at this kind of work Charles, and it's always a pleasure to see your works.
Kind of you Ulf. Thank you.
This is almost unbelievably realistic. Even when you know it's a model your brain still wants to think it's real, like an optical illusion.
Fantastic work.
Thank you buddy.
It's great work. Only one thing that concerns me, Charles, but you're not one of those people who go burning things for the sake of 'research' are you?
?
Hahaha! Naajjjjj! You can rest assure on that issue. 🙂
Well that's good. And now your build is even better than I thought it was.,,
HaHa! All good now. 🙂
Creativity and craftsmanship at their best. Cheers for this build!
Thank you kindly Johannes
If I didn't know better, I'd have thought all those shots were actual pics of a wreck you stumbled across somewhere out in the woods. Fantastic craftsmanship, sir!
Thank you Craig.
Very convincing to me! Only question I have is if more of the grease on the 5th wheel would not have burnt off in the fire. I don't know how grease burns so could be totally off in my thinking... Maybe to David's point, a little experimentation would be in line...?!
It probably would react differently if the fire had reached that far. 😉 Remember, the fire was probably put out before it reached the back.
Very effective, Charles. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Rob.
Amazing!
Thanks Tom. Glad u approve.
Great looking work, Charles. I especially like the interior photos and the burned out tire. One thing to keep in mind doing things like this is what materials are involved. You seem to know what is what as you mention carbon fire etc. Great work!
Thanks for that. Yeah. It was hard trying to find what parts were made if what. Looking at many photos of different truck burns, depending on the brand, they burn differently according to the type of materials used. I was really hoping was made of metal, like that of the Volvos. Then I could have kept the high roof. But if course, that too was made of plastic. Hence, the clips at the top.
You should be well satisfied! Nice !
I think I am Robert. Thank you.
Charles, absolutely stunning! IT LOOKS REAL!
Glad you approve of it Bernard.
Looks burned out to me. Good job.
Regards, Dirk / The Netherlands.
Thanks Dirk.
Amazing work, great attention to detail, and fabulous photographs, the outdoor light really helps the realistic effect.
Thank you. It sure does help. Natural lighting is the best.
Really well done and photographed, Charles!
As already mentioned, it looks real. I love that you uses fine wire to simulate the steel cords in the burnt-out tire.
Bravo! Reality in miniature!
Thank you Jeff. I appreciate it. Presently working on another truck piece. It's a Truck/trailer on a scale.
Charles,
Congrats on your award... I am going to say it again... Your are NOT a MODELER ... You ARE an ARTIST... All of your work is stunning and shouts out your talent
Kind of you. Thank you for the warm congrats. I was amazed myself when someone had contacted me, to congratulate me on winning the April award. So I was pretty caught off guard and humbly pleased. Thanks to your support.
