Airfix 1/72 Hawker Typhoon Ib Starter Kit

July 22, 2020 · in Aviation · · 20 · 2.3K

Hi there,

This one has been sitting in the pile for well over a year and as I was contemplating surgery for the Buccaneer I thought I could build this one for Innis to see if I was capable of cutting out some plastic without it looking too bad.

Primed with UMP Grey Primer
Painted with Colourcoats Medium Sea Gray, Ocean Gray, Dark Green, RAF/FAA Yellow, Vallejo Aluminium and Gun Metal, Semi-Gloss Black and Copper.
I tried an oil dot filter with this and washed with Citadel Nuln Oil.
Finished with Windsor & Galeria Matt Varnish.

As always Thanks for looking and any comments and criticism gratefully received.

Cheers,
Alistair

  1. Great build Alistair,
You don't see open gun bays in so much detail that often on 1/72.

  2. Great job, Alistair. The new kits from Airfix build into great models, as you have shown here. Doing kit surgery always makes me pause to think if it is a good idea or not. The Buccaneer is a really cool plane...looking forward to seeing it.

  3. Beautifully done, looks great, nice base too.

  4. I think you can tackle the Buccaneer with confidence Alistair. This is a very tidy job!

    • Thanks very much. The Bucc has been started but I want it to look really good so some time may be taken. I have very strong memories of standing in Cullicudden which is about half way up the Black Isle watching the top of numerous Buccaneers low flying up the Cromarty Firth. I want the build to live up to those memories.

      Cheers,
      Alistair

  5. Looks good Alistair, well done.

  6. 🙂 … Greetings … 🙂 :
This model looks good, and much yet … too have an open gun bay at that scale makes it more appealing, very good modeling Alistair.

  7. Remember to close those gunbays before you go flying. Very nice indeed for that scale. Love the weathering/oil job.

  8. A wonderful job, Alistair!
    Nice painting and weathering!

  9. Nice job Alistair - I liked your build and photos so much, guess what I bought today?
