F-51-R Interceptor 1/48th scale High Planes Models
Had England fallen to Germany and the Luft '46 “Amerika-Bomber” been produced in large numbers and able to bomb America, it would have to be intercepted and fast.
Before the fall of England Rolls Royce was able to send to Packard the plans for their new 2,240 cubic inch Griffon V-12 engine capable of over 2,000 h.p.!
Rushed into production on the new North American F-51-R Interceptor armed with 4 x 20mm cannons for a devastating knock out punch and contra-rotating propellers . The new Interceptor was also capable of near 500 mph. passes on the Amerika-Bombers. Making the F-51-R the fastest and most hard hitting thoroughbred Mustang of all time.
Starting off with a 1/48th scale High Planes Models Unlimited Racer “Precious Metal” kit from Australia. The fuslage,canopy,props and spinner are High planes. The wings,landing gear,and horizontal stablizer and decals are Tamiya. Wheels are True Details. Cockpit is Verlinden. Wing pylon and drop tanks are Monogram. Cannon fairings are from 2 Accurate Miniatures P-51.The 1st kit fairings were R/D. Cannon barrels are Quick boost.

That's one mean looking Mustang! Great idea and nicely executed "conversion".
VERY nice. I'm a big fan of 'scratch-built' and 'hybrid modeling'. I give you 11 out of 10 (bonus point for building 1/48 vs. 1/72). It is reminiscent of the Skyly J2 from "Sky Crawlers"...which is my all-time favorite, fictitious, prop-driven aircraft.
Thanks Charles, I'm glad you like my F-51-R. In the next week or two I'll be posting an F-2-G Super Corsair in post war markings of an OLATHE Kansas Naval Reserve squadron. I saw an F4U-4 back in 1969 or '70 in BLYTHE Ca. that had mixed markings of Gull Gray and White fuselage and Dark Sea Blue wings and rudder from OLATHE. I think you might like.
