Little Red Bus of Amelia

November 23, 2022 · in Aviation · · 20 · 1K

Hello, guys!

It was more than two years ago when I posted last time. I restarted modeling this summer, have just finished the latest project.
This particular Lockheed Vega (NR-7952) is a historical aircraft with which the famous female pilot Amelia Earhart made the first solo Transatlantic flight as a woman in May, 1932. The glossy red finish is very attractive, which was the largest reason why I decided to build this model after the two-year blank. One of the largest advantages when making a famous machine is that there is usually a plenty of reference. I was able to find many photos of this "little red bus", as Amelia called it, on the web, including those of the restored plane at National Air and Space Museum in US.
This kit of was not very friendly for building. Especially difficult was the fitting of the fuselage, wing, and canopy, which necessitated a lot of trial and error. However, the completed model, to my joy, is simply prominent among the dull-colored WW2 warbirds of my collection.

Thank you for watching. Any comment is welcome.

  1. Shun. This is a beauty. I really like this era of aircraft, especially when its built nicely like this is !

    • Thank you, Terry. Actually, I bought another Vega of Dora Wings, "Winnie Mae" of Wiley Post. I'd be happy if I can post the white Vega in the future.

  2. Very nice result, Shun @shunichi654
What a great come-back after two years.

  3. It certainly looks like a victory of talent and skill over plastic to me. Very nice result with a model of one of my favorite airplanes.

Now if they'd just do the Sirius, Altair and Orion - the Lockheed Stars.

    • I'm happy, Tom, to hear that you also like this lovely bird!
Do you know the movie "Amelia", in which appear various aircrafts (though some scenes may be CG) flown by Amelia, including her last Orion? If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend!

  4. Hi Shun I've tried Dora Wings models. They're exactly as you say and that is a really impressive result with such intransigent material

  5. An amazing result over a challenging kit, Shun!

    • Thank you Spiros!
Though challenging in building, I like the lineup of products of Dora Wings. I hope they keep releasing important historical planes despite the difficulty they now face in Ukraine.

  6. That red is terrific, Shun, as you say, a great contrast to all the usual camouflaged planes.

  7. Lovely build! I wasn't aware of this kit, but as a fan of Golden Age aircraft I think I'll need to get it. It's even in my favorite scale.

  8. A very nice looking model - well done.

  9. Excellent work on this!
