Tamiya 1:48 Focke-Wulf Fw-190A-8/A-8R2 Kit #61095
I'll let Eduard explain the story...
What can be said about the Tamiya kit other than the well known wheel size issue that I let be and the upper gun cowl fit. I went over a lot of builds on different sites and saw that many modellers knocked themselves out trying to get an airtight fit but look at the photos; there are gaps every where. Another thing modellers and model makers miss are the vents at the back of this panel. This is one of the areas I worked at on this piece. The other was at the front end removing the molded in MGs and hollowing out the space they occupied
Other than that, I added a missing antenna at the bottom of the rear fuselage. All paint was Tamiya and the decals were from Karaya Decals. A very nice build
Well done, George. I like you picked a non-typical scheme. Again, nice job!
Thank you Gary
Very nice.
I recently finished the Eduard kit in this scheme. The Karaya stickers are great.
Thanks James @jkelleycrna Though I do love the subject of the Karaya decals I wasn't to fond of them. They didn't conform well to the surface and the sheet had a slight fold in it causing the decals along the fold to split even though I had coated them
Beauty George! 🍺 @blackadder57 A job well done sir! 👍
Thanks Grant
That color scheme reminds me of the TravelAir racing planes of the '30. Pretty cool indeed.
Gary
Interesting livery. Nice build. Chapeau!
Thank you
Very nice build. The red butcher bird is quite a unique scheme.
Thanks Dan. @dbdlee If you think this is a unique 190, stand by for my current build
A not so often seen scheme, George @blackadder57
But to be honest, this 190 looks great in red.
Thanks for sharing the airvent information, something I will definitely look at in my next 190 build.
Thank you John @johnb Here is the area on the Tamiya kits
Fantastic job, George! Your attention to detail is, as always, supreme!
Thank you Spiros
Super cool George, this is a really impressive work. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks David
A red Butcher Bird. Cool!
Thanks
Sharp work, George. It looks great in orange!
Decades ago I met a pilot in the 404th and he discussed this plane. He said the Group C.O. flew it briefly a few times and it was understood that transition to the 190 was not considered safe. It was designated off-limits. After blowing out the tires on landings, and replacements scarce, the plane was grounded permanently not worth further effort. And, word allegedly came down from higher authority to cease the flights. Though the 190 was painted a distinctive shade of red, with US markings, flying it was still a worry because they were very close to the front and possible prey for Allied fighters. Thus the reason for brief flights.
Great work with the kit by the way. Well done!
Thank you
A very good looking 190.
Thanks other George
That's one you don't see every day. Very nice work and a very good result.
Appreciated Tom

A great build George. Good info about that vent by the wind screen. That was news to me You always pick unusual topics like those captured Zeros you did a few years ago.
Many thanks Eric
Cool build George! A horse of a different color.
