1/48 P-40K.
This is the Hasegawa Kittyhawk Mk.III kit finished as a P-40K, my favorite P-40 variant. It represents an 18th FS machine based on Amchitka Island, Alaska during the Aleutian campaign of 1943. The decals are from DK's Pacific/China P-40K sheet and performed very nicely. Paints are Xtracolor and Humbrol enamels. The only things I added were Eduard seatbelts and a scratchbuilt rear view mirror because I lost the kit supplied part. I also used AML camo masks for the second time on a P-40. Just like the real thing! This is still a solid kit, as are the AMT P-40s. It'll be interesting to see what Eduard does with the P-40 series. I have a feeling we'll be seeing lots of P-40s being built in the near future. Thanks for looking and have a great day.
That's a really nice build John (@j-healy) :-). Love it all especially the cockpit detail with the wear and tear in there too! Great work.
Thanks, Scott!
Aleutian P-40K in a desert camo scheme is the most P-40 thing ever. Great model and photos. Thanks for posting.
Thanks, Bob! It’s actually US equivalent colors for the Brit temperate land scheme. Dark green, dark earth, sky gray. These paints were close equivalents to RAF colors produced by Berry Brothers or DuPont. Planes painted like this in American service were diverted from Commonwealth production batches.
Very nice John. I used AML on my Defiant. A little stiff around corners but could be prodded into position. Well worth the purchase.
Thanks, George! And the AML masks are reusable……
Nice work John @j-healy
Thanks, Tom!
Great build John. What's not to like about a good looking P-40.
Lovely 👍
Thanks, Guy! Lots of variety when it comes to P-40 schemes.
@j-healy
There is a lot to like about the way you went about your P-40.
The paint work, some details and the just right weathering really got your model one step higher. Thumbs up
Thanks, Pedro! I spent a lot of time looking at a site called Aleutionplanes.com. Lots of great stuff to be seen there.
A real beauty, John@j-healy. I really like how you weathered the front office.
Thanks, Eric!
Nicely done John, and like you I'm looking forward to what Eduard has to offer in the P-40 line.
Thanks, Tom! I’m really interested in doing some Eduard F/Ls and at least two more K/Kittyhawk IIIs.
Excellent build, John.
Thanks, Rafi!
That's a great looking P-40k, John.
Thanks, John!
This is a very nice build, John @john-h
A yellow spinner is not what you see quite often.
Thanks, John!
Fantastic job, John! Everything in this build is excellent.
Congratulations!
Thanks, Spiros!
Great outcome, John!
Thanks, Gary!
Very nicely finished, just the right amount of detailing and weathering.
Thanks, George!
Beautiful work, I like it very much.
Thanks, Milan!
Very well done!
Thanks, Chas!
G’day John (@j-healy),
The K model was one P-40 that I didn’t build last year. However, I did buy a couple of AMT Ks.
I have yet to decide what scheme I will build them in.
The Aleutian P-40s are an interesting case and I wasn’t aware of the white markings on the horizontal tail until now.
Food for thought.
You have done an excellent job on this one especially given the challenges of the Hasegawa inserts.
Awesome!
Thanks, Michael. Lots of great K schemes to choose from. I still need to do an OD/NG American K, and a desert painted RAF example.
Very nice P-40! Looks great.
Thanks, Greg!
