Airfix Fairey Gannet AS4 1/48.
Hi folks, long time no posts and I apologise about that, life has changed for me. My marriage broke down and I am now living with my dear old mum down in Devon. I now have a man cave to build in and astash to play with.
Anyhow, I saw this kit when they released the pre-production shots and I said that "Yes, I want this kit"
And here it is.
Paints: Tamiya, Mr Hobby and Alcad2.
Varnish:W&N Galeria.
Filler: Hardly any.
I hope that you enjoy.
Simon.
Sorry to hear about your marriage. I hope you find some peace of mind.
Very nice looking Gannet. I'm not a big Gannet fan, but after seeing all these well done models now I'm itching to get one.
Go for it, she is a lovely kit to build. Well thought out construction and well engineered to.
Simon
Simon, so sorry for the circumstances, but glad to see you posting again. Excellent work on the Gannet! I am a fan of these "strange-looking" British birds, and need to get mine build soon (though it's not the Airfix version...)
That is life Greg, but still life goes on.
I here that Sword? are releasing an AEW version in 1/48.
Sword is releasing that kit next month BTW.
There's always a silver lining in every dark cloud, or in this case, should I say a Dark Sea Grey/Sky lining?
Very nice result. Your kit and others I have seen testify that this is indeed a great kit.
The LHS here is getting some in next week and it turned out that is "an offer he cannot refuse." 🙂
Remember, it's always better to be alone and hopeful, rather than together and hopeless.
Thanks Tom, very much appreciated.
Life can be like that but we carry on regardless.
Sorry to hear things didn’t work out for you. Hope scale modeling brings you some relief. The Gannet is a very nice build, congrats.
Modelling has brought me a lot of relief over the 50 odd years that I have been doing the hobby Alfred, I do find it quite relaxing and therapeutic as well.
I am happy with her.
Welcome back, Simon! Excellent job on this one. Great choice to return with. I just finished one and think it’s the nicest model I’ve ever built.
Cheers John, it is a very nice kit, one of the best I have built.
Fine looking model, Simon. Thanks for sharing!
Cheers Pip, very much appreciated.
Nicely done Simon, and remember if one door closes another one opens. Good luck on your future endeavors
Thanks Tom, I take each day as it comes now. At least with my mancave I don`t have to worry about the smells of solvents etc annoying anyone.
Simon.
Sorry about what happened, Simon @superfreak
Glad to see that your modeling results are still of a very high level.
Beautiful result on this Gannet.
Thanks John, I now can get on with my life the way I want to allowing for the s*** that flies our way.
I am glad you enjoyed the "Goose".
There's a lot to be aid in favor of being able to do what you want, the way you want, when you want, without having to negotiate.
Excellent work Simon. Everything will work out as it should. In the meantime, enjoy the fact that you’re excellent and making plastic come to life. Well done. G
Cheers Graeme, I now look to the future builds with more confidence.
Hi Simon, I was so happy to see your post here, I did wonder what had happened. The Gannet looks like a great hit for Airfix and your example makes a very nice advert for them, what’s next from your new man cave? Just wish I could share a Devon cream tea with you.
Hi George, hope all is well with you. I am not sure what next from the cave but it will possibly be a Mig 25 RBT 1/48 by Revell.
As for the Devon cream tea, I avoid them where possible, I don`t want to pile on the weight LOL
Simon.
Simon, a real barn burner this kit. Looks like the first pressing was saved for the home town crowd and sold out quickly. You've really brought out the best in this kit. Glad to see your comments, gifts and talents grace the pages of Imodeler again.
Thank you Stephen, I suppose we are just lucky with the release over here. A lot of companies give first priority to their home country but she well worth buying given a chance.
And it`s good to be back.
Simon.
An aircraft that should be ugly, but somehow has a beauty all its own. You’ve done a wonderful job with it!
Functional David, like the "Rhino" . Thank for the kind comment.
Simon.
And Devon is a lovely part of England.
It is Emberson, very quiet and laid back. More of a retirement town like Florida.
Simon.
Excellent job, Simon! This Gannet rocks! Sorry to hear about your marriage, I second what Tom said, better alone and hopeful. Life goes on and we only have one.
Looking forward to your next builds!
Cheers Spiros, life goes on . I hope to get more kits built in the future, life allowing for it.
Simon.
Excellent build, Simon.
Models are ideal retreat in your circumstances.
They are Rafi, it keeps the brain going.
Simon.
That’s an excellent looking model . I’ve never wanted one of them , but after seeing this one, I think I need one of them for my collection. Airfix has been producing some great kits in recent years.
She is well worth it Jay. One of the best Airfix have done up to now. I am looking forward to the B 24 Liberator they have re-tooled, out in April/May.
Simon.
Nicely done Simon, I've always shied away from this Royal Nav scheme, it's too hard to match up with rattle cans. What happened to your trademark tar mac?
Thank you Robert, I try t avoid rattle cans where possible, apart from priming that is.
And I am trying to keep things simple on the forums.
Simon.
