1/24 Scale Spitfire kit by Airfix

September 8, 2024 · in Aviation · · 11 · 293

Well, this was a project for my 36th model of the year. The big 1/24th scale by .

I had high hopes for this kit after hearing rave reviews over and over "this is the best kit ever!" was one thing I heard...a lot...well in my opinion it's not. Lots of weird engineering decisions, soft plastic, gun bays can only be displayed open or closed because they made the ammo cans sit about a quarter inch too high so it looks stupid if you display them open, the nose cone of all things doesn't stay in place because there is no attachment points, same goes for the engine panels.

On the plus side the molding is great, decals are Cartograf so no issues there.

After about 100 hours I have a beautiful Spitfire, I recommend it for the experienced model builder...it's a good kit, not great.

    Those details are really nice.

  5. Bravo on overcoming the foibles of this kit, she looks great! Well done!

Now if Airfix could come up with a 1:24 scale kit of a Bristol Beaufighter...

  6. Looks good, Rick. I’ve never built a 1/24 scale kit before but have considered this one, the Typhoon, or the Hellcat.

  7. A great-looking Spit!
