1/48 Fokker D.VII (OAW) – Great War Group Build.
This is the first issue of the Eduard D.VII, released in 2005. I purchased this kit when it was first released and waited 19 years to build it, what a mistake that was. It's a fantastic kit. I should've built it a long time ago. Thanks to Louis Gardner for providing the inspiration to finally tackle it by starting the Great War Group Build! I built it pretty much out of the box. Everything you need to make a great model is included in this Profipack edition. I did use alternative decals for the lozenge and for the individual plane's markings as “The Seven Swabians”. The lozenge is a laser printed product from Aviattic which is translucent and must be applied over gloss white. I used Tamiya lacquer gloss white. The colors and simulated textures of the lozenge are really nice. That said, I still have mixed feelings about it after using it on two models in a row. It's very stubborn and doesn't want to conform to scalloped trailing edges. Heat and Solvaset enabled me to get an acceptable but not perfect result. Regular silk screened products are a lot more user friendly for wings like these. The Aeromaster decals performed flawlessly. I painted the model with Xtracolor Soviet Hind Blue-Gray and a mix of Mr. Color brown and red lacquer for the fuselage. The minimal rigging was done with stainless steel wire measured with drafting dividers and cut to length. Thanks for looking!

First off, I want to congratulate you for finishing this one up, and it sounds like you had a great time building her. I will miss not seeing the regular updates on your build journal. These two turned out great, and I will be using your build journal as a reference for when I get around to building these exact same aircraft, but in a larger 1/32 scale version. I have the exact same Aviattik decals and will be using a Wingnut Wings kit for the Fokker, and a Roden kit for the Siemens Schuckert. I may ask you some questions about what to expect from the decals when that time comes. I have never used anything like them before, so I will definitely have a learning curve...

Thanks, Louis! You will like the Aviattic decals. They’re made to fit the 1/32 WNW kits. The 1/48 versions that I used were scaled down by Aviattic from their 1/32 versions and weren’t exact fits for the Eduard kits. I do have a few more projects planned for this group eventually (Pfalz, more Fokker’s, Sopwith Dolphin, Nieuport 28). In the immediate future though, I have an F-4N to get across the finish line and a couple of Ki-61s. Stay safe this week!
