The new Airfix Ju87 Stuka

December 4, 2015 · in Aviation · · 15 · 2.6K

In an Imodeler exclusive - here are a few photos of the new 1:72 Ju87 which is about to arrive in the shops. I built this for Airfix Model World Magazine and it is featured in the new January issue of the mag which hit the shops this week. It's a superb kit, detail and fit are excellent. Hope you enjoy the photos!

  1. It's clear to see why your talent(s) are worthy of publication. Stellar build, sir!

  2. There has never been, IMHO, a decent 1/72 Stuka kit, this one looks promising, thanks for the heads up.

  3. Nice build Alan, and an fine article in AMW too.

  4. Thanks for the comments everyone, this is a superb new kit, there is more detail in this than some 1:48 offerings and some really clever engineering of the kit by Airfix.

  5. Airfix is definitely back. I just completed the Swift FR5 which has the detail you'd expect in 1/48. Now involved with the Kate, of which I can say the same. Looking at your photos it's obvious they have definitely sent the trench-digger off to the retirement home. The F4F, the Swift and the Kate all have similar petite surface detail. Oh, and the Whitley too.

Thanks for the heads up, that one's now on the list. Very nice result there.

  6. Good to see Airfix doing so well!

    • P.S. I'm surprised that Airfix Magazine published those pictures with the insignia on the tail fin, are they included in the kit?

      • Hi George, there are no restrictions on UK publications with respect to Swastikas. However the kit is sold throughout Europe where of course in Germany they are banned. As a result Airfix don't usually include Swastikas and they don't appear on their box art. The kit used Xtradecal for markings and personally I always put them on my German builds.

  7. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
The STUKA has always been a very keen interest to me. Just the mere look and stance calls out attention. Very nice work. Those AIRFIX models do seem to be way batter in every aspect to what they were.

  8. Great looking Stuka. Have a couple of older kits so will have to wait awhile before I grab some of the Airfix offerings... One disadvantage of compiling a large stash!

    • Ditch the old ones Greg, this is so far ahead you wont believe it! I've got an old one I built a couple of years back, its like something out of the stone age compared to this! If I get a chance I'll shoot some comparison photos and post.

  9. VERY well done and well-deserving of appearing in the Airfix magazine.

  10. yet another Airfix new mould I'm going to have to get!

Well made model and AMW a good display case for this and all the other new Airfix moulds as they come out. Must get the Sea King copy that should be out by now.
