Visits from a couple of old friends
Hi Folks, I haven't posted much lately because I have been working on the Tamiya 1/32 Mustang, And well, not much more can be said about it than hasn't been written! Then a good friend of mine who has been living in Germany stopped by. I hadn't seen him in years. He brought me a bottle of Belgian Ale from the Westvleteren Abby. It was quite good, and it reminded me of the comfort of old friends. What has this to do with Tamiya? Well after struggling with some of the great new kits out there from Kinetic, Trumpeter and the like, I have been amazed at how easy the Tamiya kit is. I haven't built a Tamiya kit of any type in years. It was like having an old modeling "friend" stop by. I have ordered the 1/32 F4U-1A and I am sure it will be a pleasure as well. I didn't take a lot of pics, and will post again after it is finished. If it has been a while since you have built something from Tamiya, have a go at one, it will be a rewarding relaxing experience!
Hello Rob...Looks like you're off to a great start. Personally I think the 1/32nd P-51D and F4U-1 and F4U-1A are the best kits Tamiya has ever offered. Your attention to detail is outstanding and I look forward to seeing more of that Mustang build as it moves along. Keep up the fine work. I'm curious as to what markings you plan to use...lots of options there.
I am making a VLR Mustang from the 506th FG, based on Iwo Jima. I plan on making "HEL-ETER". When I was in the Navy we used to go on detachment to Iwo, and I have flown in and out of there several times, so my interest in that group is strong.
Ya can't go wrong with pretty much anything that comes outta the Tamiya factory. That Corsair is arguably one of the best kits out there - dare I say the "perfect" kit? Haven't fondled one of their P-51's, but I'd imagine it's high on the list of the 'greats'.
The Mustang is great, my only real issue is some of the working features, the ailerons in particular are a tad loose, but that may be my fault, rubber tires are not my favorite either, but really those are both nit picks 🙂

Rob, you express exactly what I feel about it. Tamiya kits feel like being at home.
